As a new user who was already tempted to close a 5 day old account, I found this article interesting. It's confirmed my doubts about the point of carrying on (with instagram, that is. Not life!)
Oh dear, if you leave, one fifth of my following goes..... yeah, I dont get it but will keep it until I'm sure I understand its attractions, or lack thereof.
I have a photographer friend that uses it a lot alongside her other photography and loves it, she's in Thailand photographing a wedding at the moment, I'll ask her to explain when she gets back.....
I just signed up, but not sure I will use it. I don't like the forced crop that it seems to impose. And, I don't have many pictures to view from contacts, but I do think the faux retro effects are overused without adding overall interest.
When I get my iPhone later this spring I might add Instagram. But I would like to be in charge of my photographic images and create my own SFX using tools, not somebody else's templates.
