How much to charge people for family portraits?

June 16th, 2014
I have been doing a lot of family portraits lately and I am not really sure how much to charge for them, I've been asking for £25 for around 2 hrs shooting, then it usually takes me about two-three days to process and edit the images ( around 20-30). Is this a fair price?

Our engagement photos were $150 USD, which seems to be the going rate here

@aslessknownsu That seems very cheap to me. We charge R450 which is around 85 pounds and $45 - for an hour shoot.

I am having the same difficulties (although different type of photography …) I have been trawling through other people's websites (those that advertise prices anyway) and it can be really hard to know what they ACTUALLY charge since a session fee might not include prints, much less digital files etc which might all be ordered a la carte. But I'm trying to take kind of an average of a basic package, and am working on the idea of starting at about 1/3 of this and building from there as I get more experienced and all my paperwork in order. My work will also involve being on-call for weeks and calling babysitters at short notice too, so I'm reluctant to go much below this. Does any of this make sense/help at all??
