@dmortega This is something I have always wanted to volunteer to do at my local shelters and have just never pursued. Maybe now I will - thanks for sharing the link!
@beautifulthing --- Great! You can print out the article and show it to the first shelter you approach. This will show them someone else is doing it and it's working for the benefit of the animals. Don't wait. Let us know how it goes.
I wish it were so, here in KY...some of these rural counties won't allow photos, photographers, etc...because the conditions are so inhumane they won't let anyone carry a camera in...I always take mine and do it anyway and sometimes that the only photo of an animal at all and their only chance to get out. Unfortunately its a matter of quickly taking pictures through wires before someone says something...but its a chance...
@blackdogs --- They won't allow it for adoptions? Sounds like there is a HUGE need here. Maybe there isn't much in the way of getting the word out about the animals. Hmmm ... people could set up free websites like blogspot.com, take and post pictures of the animals. Sounds like there could be opportunities for people to make some money by hosting sites.
Thank you SO much for sharing this. I have seriously been thinking about doing this, and what is funny is that part of my horoscope for today says "Charitable or humanitarian ideals may inspire you!" lol
@AshleyMiller ---- That's interesting. Something similar happened with one of my cooking challenge postings on fb. Each week I post a look back to the same week last year before deleting them out permanently. I posted the one for next week instead of this week by mistake. It turned out someone needs the recipe this week. They posted back ... Kismet because they won't need it next week.
This is such a worthwhile thing to do and it sounds like a much needed service for those smaller shelters. When all things point us in a particular direction, call Kismet and go for it. There are animals in need of your services. :-)
Angie Chauvin (@aphotog) takes gorgeous photos at a local shelter near her. She inspired me to do the same & I now go out every week or so to my local SPCA & take all their dog photos for them.
So true that if each of us took on one shelter, the animals would have a much better chance!
Great thread!!!
this is such a great post
I agree - one of my friends always posts photographs of Cats from a shelter that need a home and are about to be euthanized. They post the most terrible photos and I was thinking a few weeks ago, only if they hired better photographers and took decent photos - they would be able to save a lot of the cats
@dmortega This is wonderful! A friend of mine volunteers his time at his local RSPCA in Qld and has helped provide many animals with new homes as a result. So very lovely!
I foster dogs for Ohio Fuzzy Pawz and have been trying to improve the photos of the dogs we rescue. Ive enjoyed the links and the inspiration. Thank you all
