I took a portrait which I feel reasonably pleased with, and I wanted loads of comments...ahem, no I mean, I wanted to see you's guys portraits too! ;) So here it is and feel free to post your own formal portraits.
(And comment and fav and all that stuff too. he he.)
If you want aforementioned portrait critiquing on the thread then do say when you post it.
great one Andy, part of me would have prefered to enjoy the eyes, and patterns, as two elements, without the colour. did you try it in bklack and white? I think I've just got a crush on black and white at the moment, but I reckon her eyes would just stand out more in black and white. great!!
I have to admit that I get envious whenever I see remarkable posed portraits, such as yours and the many examples above, as I never can pull off the confidence to ask a model/sitter to pose the way I want him/her to.
The only ones I can fully explain what I want is from close friends and family, such as my examples below. I'd like to someday shoot a model comfortably though.
Some really stunning portraits in this thread! I am a landscape photographer, not a portrait guy, but I took this one of my girlfriend that I was quite pleased with:
I would love some feedback on my portraits. I love to take portraits, but I'm still learning, so your comments and constructive criticism are appreciated.
@chewyteeth Thanks so much! The first was taken with a Panasonic 20mm 1.7f stop, in natural light, the second two with a Canon 50mm and individually set-up lights. Both on a 4/3rds camera which i think changes the perspective of the lens...? How about yours? The smoothness of the skin is incredible!
I love taking peoples pictures so I have been reading and practicing different techniques. Still find it hard to shoot pics in the middle of the day and be happy with the results. Here are a couple of my practises recently
@laurenjessopphotography@emmapureangel
Love your selfie-collage.
I totally agree with Lauren, the backgrounds a bit war-torn. Maybe crop, or use apature priority on your camera and blur the background.
If it had been me Mick I woulda gone with black and white for all of those. the colours aren't special in any of them pics and I think the details in the faces would be brought out in black and white. Maybe darkening the first image too, which is a bit menacing to me, darkening might suit it.
@chewyteeth Thanks for taking the time Dave, much appreciated, I'll give the B&W a go. I follow Kevin so yes I've seen and admired them all before. BTW I'm working all this weekend so will have to dip on the Rivvy trip, hope all goes well, have a good day.
I pretty much do people all the time, but I guess there is a difference in actual portraits and more candid 'capture the moment' shots of people.
here's one of those.
I ain't gonna critique nuffin. My only criticism of you is you dissapear for days on end. Your portraits of your sis are amongst my fav shots on the 365.
I would love some feedback (and a chance to brag on my daughter): This was just one of many shots I took on my oldest's 9th birthday "super-model" session. As much as I love it...I only have 5 views and one comment. I was really hoping for more (c; Thanks for any critique, ahead of time.
@spainpops
erm, you copy and paste the long code from the side of your picture, so go to the picture you want to post, and below where the information is, and the camera details on the right hand side you will find a bar full of code, just right click it.
@chewyteeth I think this photo has a very classic look. I love the b&w which gives it mistery. Her eye contact with you is what really draws me in. Great job!!
Why thankyou April. I'm not really on the site anymore but I love your portrait, really nice, and a more interesting pov. The way the eyes are framed with orange is ace.
I think this one is awesome but I'm curious what I can do to improve. I just started trying portraits so any feedback is welcome! I have a couple more in my project but I think it's only about 4.
@izzymathie All beautiful shots.

what lens do you use, those are great, you get up so close, it gives them a pretty unique feel and really gives great character to the portraits. ace.

But this was my favourite pose
FIRST BITE OF WATERMELON
BELIEVE
CHIEF KAHUNA
I'm on my phone now but when I'm on my laptop next ill make some comments.
The first an ad hoc shot taken with the mobile phone, in the front of a car.. I thought he looked so cool (but then I am biased)
The second a high contrast shot of my very beautiful 3 year old gran daughter
I did try b&w with this image but it just wasn't working for me so stuck with colour - but yeah, she's got great eyes hasn't she...
Downside is she'd leaving us the end of this week :-(...
Fairy portrait count lol
Self portrait
Stranger's portrait
Etc...etc...etc... :)

super cute, gorgeous eyes!
Love that second one Jeff.
nice natural portraits Jamie, although not a fan of writing on pictures,I especially like the last one, relaxed capture.

is that top pic Ernest Hemmingway?? great shot.

did you check out Kevin's, a few posts below yours?
no worries, I was gonna say no kids too, but everyone's posted kids. These are great portraits, some of the best on here Kev.

I wouldn't call this a formal portrait...quite informal actually, but I still love it!
This is another shot from the above wedding...I love this woodsy one...what say you?
by far my most popular photo, 25 favs (but who's counting anyways?) sadly it didn't make the PP :(
here's one of those.

Critiques welcome!!! :-)
Lovely, I love your monochrome portraits!

I took this photo for a photo contest. The theme is orange. I would love to know what you think. The good and the bad.
