@jgpittenger Jane Pittenger started a discussion on this subject earlier and there was a good response. Jane is about to go on vacation so has asked me to take it to a further level before the kettle goes off the boil!
What we would like to happen is to identify those members who would prefer honest constructive criticism to further their learning, rather than a high number of followers who post nice comments but give no suggestions as to how you could have done it differently/better.
We do, of course, want to hear what we have done well too. Someone suggested a critique sandwich which I think is a good guideline/framework to giving constructive criticism. This is my interpretation:- Try to find two positive points and two points which could be improved or done in a different way, then make a sandwich when posting your comments ie Make a positive comment about what you like about the shot or what you think the member has done well, followed with 2 suggestions which you think may be helpful in improving technique/ camera settings/ creativity etc then finish off with another positive comment. It wont always be possible to apply this format but you get the idea.
Please remember that you may not always agree with the critique you are given as the viewer may not always know what you had hoped to achieve and will base their comments on what they would have done with the subject. Don't take it too personally or be offended as it is only one persons opinion and therefore subjective. It's yours to take on board or ignore.
If you are still interested in this group, post a 'I'm in' comment on this thread to show your commitment and make sure you follow all the members who have posted 'I'm in'
When posting your photos put CW (critiques welcome) at the beginning of your description, as suggested by Jane, as this may encourage other members to follow.
It was me that suggested the feedback sandwich :) .. its 2:1 (two stars and a wish) ....
Lets keep it simple! How many people are on this sight?
I like all feedback and including the feel good positive stuff.
My suggestion is not over think it!! - which is kind of what is happening here! If you .. me anyone wants feedback with a bit more depth - lets just ask for that and add that on the description...
@brigette Thanks for your response Brigette and for the idea of the sandwich. The reason we are raising this issue is that even when you request constructive criticism it is not always given. Also, some people are reluctant to offer advice incase the receiver is offended. This discussion has enabled members to recognise when it is acceptable and in return they can expect honest critiques on their postings.
I'm in. I will tag my photos with CW when I want a critique. I like the sandwich idea from @brigette. I used that 2:1 approach on my job before I retired. It usually works well, especially when you know you will be receiving (or giving) a critique.
I'm in. :-D
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and so I am sure that there will be varied opinions. I am keen to work on a few aspects of my limited photography skills. since starting here in January I have rarely used my camera in automatic so that is a huge step! Good idea this.
@zosimasy@june Thanks for your comments and coming in. Jane, who started the discussion already suggested putting CW at the beginning of the description of each shot - means critiques welcome . Some of us have started using this and I believe it will soon be a well known sign for members viewing posts.
I'm in too although definitely a novice I would appreciate some constructive criticism. @zosimasy yes a tag would be a better idea, what do u think Linda @happysnapper65 @agima
I'm in too! I've already tried to give some constructive feedback where I felt like. I am not an expert, just commenting things from my pov. @happysnapper65
Sorry for the bulk message but I just want to make sure I dont miss anyeone. :)
I dont get on here that often and it is like every few days or once a week. I am happy to CC your images if you want me to have a look and to be honest it is something I actually enjoy.
But as I mentioned I dont get on here that often so if you want to me CC your image if you tag me in the comments of the images and let me know what you want me to look at I will be more than happy to come along and have a look next time I am on.
so just add @agima
to a comment under your image. Dont add it to the description as i dont get notification, it has to be in the comments.
If you can do that, that would be great. I think get notification and I can swing past. :)
@ghostdancers just put CW at beginning of the description of your photo and put a tag of CW4 for April then CW5 for May etc. People will then know you are ok with a critique. You can follow as many people you want on this thread to make sure others see your posts.
I'm in!
I am still very new and am not usually 100% satisfied with my photos but I'm often at a loss as to how to improve it (I am also on a tight budget so buying additional equipment will take some time- but open to getting what is needed.)
I would welcome honest criticism, suggestions, and/or applause for any of the photos I have posted. I am new to the 365 Project and have just completed my first week. I will check out others in this group as well.
I've tried to point out things I already think could be better in my image in the description to encourage others to do so too, but that hasn't seemed to work. My project is all about improving my images, so I welcome the feedback (you know, as long as it is constructive!)
@klas just put CW at beginning of the description of your photo and put a tag of CW4 for April then CW5 for May etc. People will then know you are ok with a critique. You can follow as many people you want on this thread to make sure others see your posts.

I am new to this but would love the constructive criticism. I just joined and do not have any followers not have i started following anyone. I look forward to seeing the posts.
@ctgal Dona, you could follow some people on this thread and put CW at the beginning of your descriptions on your pics. Also put CW5 as a tag on each photo you want critiqued in the month of May ie the 5th month. June will be CW6'
@nicholas HI Sorry, I have been away form my computer due to long hours at work.
Smashing shot, I like your use of colour and Depth of field. Extremly sharp focus. A really nicely composed shot to. Pulling my eyes to the flower then the hand.
@hamble You don't need to follow everyone. Just put CW in front of your image description to let people you are open to honest critiques. There are a lot of people signing up so you should see some you can give critiques to. Why don't you just follow a few to get started?
@nicholas This is a very good shot James, the flower immediately pulls the eye into the frame and leads into the hand, which is, itself accentuated by the jumper sleeve. Your dof is excellent and the dappling effect very pleasing. Speaking from a purely personal point of view, I wonder how the image would look with a little cropping of the bottom section?
Please may I request some critique (honest opinions) on my photo project? I'd like to improve my skills and have made a definite decision not to upload any Photoshopped photos and get some honest critique in the process...?
Tell me how I can improve a shot or what you would've done differently?
I started my Project365 journey 3 days ago...so here we go... :-)
Today is my first day on this site 😊. I would love some critique as I am a very novice photographer that would like to improve my skills. Do I need to follow or be followed to receive critique or can I just tag people willing to look at my photos?
@littlemissdanger Just follow a few on this list that you would like to learn from and make sure you put CW at the beginning of your description. You can also put in the tag CW6 The 6 is for June so when we go into July it's CW7.
@lkmlee Click on names here and follow them, as many as you like. Also, make sure you put CW at the beginning of your description. You can also put in the tag CW6. The 6 is for June so when we go into July it's CW7.

I am new to this site, and would love some critique on my work. I have just posted my first image today. I apparently uploaded my first and only photo as the profile pic.....I am just beginning to learn photoshop, so I may post some images that I have used photoshop on in the future. I welcome any critique and appreciate it, as I am just starting out.
Thank you:)
I'm in, but mostly for the critique on my own pictures. I'm new and only started photography this summer. I probably won't be giving critique, but I can give my opinion. And don't worry I try to be as respectful as I can.
: ) @happysnapper65
@gcom If you want constructive advice on your images rather than just 'nice shot' put CW at the beginning of your description of the shot to let people know they are free to say what is good and what can be improved on. You can also follow a few people on here as you know that they are also committed to giving proper critiques. Don't take to heart any critiques you don't agree on as the viewer is basically saying what they would do if t were their image and we all have individual preferences. Take the suggestions on board to consider but feel free to stick to your own preference.
Hello folks,
I am looking for some solid constructive advice in order to develop and grow my photography skills. Fluffy comments are nice, but I would like to have people friend me who are willing to offer suggestions so I can learn from shared knowledge and experence.
Hi folks, I have been getting all enthusiastic about the mentoring system stuff going on but only just discovered this thread too. Can I be in too?? Would love some CC on my images and happy to give it too if I feel I have any.

I'm in but very new to al this so need all the help I can get! Hopefully in time i will be brave enough and have learnt enough to help others. Started a 365 project 3 days ago.

@lynnilou @deliad @unit8 @macromover @deeganp @brigette @newbank @frantic @ikamera @alsaintsfc @oopsadaisy @wanabe @susale
Would it be easier if there was a tag?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and so I am sure that there will be varied opinions. I am keen to work on a few aspects of my limited photography skills. since starting here in January I have rarely used my camera in automatic so that is a huge step! Good idea this.
I think stag would be great. Makes finding each other easy
I would like to be in if possible
