feedback wanted

I took this photo back during the summer and ran across it the other day. I thought that it would be a good one to try and add fog/mist to. I have tried out a couple of techniques and settled on this image as the finale. Would love some feedback on how it looks or if it could be done differently or maybe its not the right type of picture to use the fog on...
Thanks everyone for your feedback in in advance!

At first glance this shot has an eerie feel but as the eye takes in the setting, colours etc. something just doesn't seem right. The fact that so many people are wearing t shirts and relaxing on what appears to be a foggy, gloomy day is a bit off-putting. In my very amateur opinion, it may have worked better with fewer people...maybe one lone figure. It depends what mood you were going for. Good capture though.

I agree with @trishaclancy, it has the feel of a dark/atmospheric shot but the people in summer clothing do not make it believable. I love how you placed the fog and it really gives it a wonderfully eery feel and would work beautifully with a winter image/single person or just architectural elements. As above, am no professional so just my opinion. Great street scene

@trishaclancy @roseolivia Thank you both for the feed back! I am feeling the same way about the people, I think that is what is putting me off from the photo as well!

I agree with the comments above totally, but had one thought...they look fairly unsuspecting, as if this is a mist that occurs -- as in a Twilight Zone or other sci-fi type horror movie -- signaling something awful about to happen to these poor unsuspecting people. So, while as art, it isn't believable and thus probably a different image for fog would work better, I can see it as an illustration in a book or a movie poster. The title would be critical here.

You might try converting the photo to B&W. That might draw the viewer's attention away from the people in the foreground and towards that awesome building and the weather in the background.

Converting to B&W and with all that fog, might give your photo a Casablanca vibe, so don't forget to photoshop in Humphery Bogart in an overcoat. *wink*

agree with all the above, but even more.. the fog looks unnatural. Closer to the camera, the fog will look sparser... and heavier further away. If you look in at the people and the bin, the fog should be very very sparse and almost undetectable here.. but its pretty heavy.

To me it seemed more like the effect you get when you leave your camera in an air conditioned room, take it outside and have the lens fog up all over...

I would also convert it to black and white I believe it would give more of an eerie feel. That would convey more emotion. It's a beautiful shot never the less. I encourage you to keep doing what you love, you are very gifted.

I think you made a good choice using the fog and mist b/c it adds kind of a creepy affect. The age of the building is a plus you can tell fog would go great with the age and structure. I agree with cindy vega on the whole gothic view.

It's kinda cool in an artsy sort of way, but it does look added. To be believable the fog would have to get thicker with distance away from the point of view.
