My first lizard

So I was in the forest yesterday and I took a few photos, and here's my favourite/ Can you tell me if the composition is good? Thanks

@michellina , if I'd taken this photo, I'd be proud of it. The out-of-focus background sets the lizard off beautifully, the detail of its skin is wonderful, and those hind claws are arresting. The lizard's placed nicely on the frame horizontally by the "rule of thirds" but to my eye the composition could be improved in two spots - his tail is "cut off" at an akward place (not that there's a better place to crop this without sacrificing that interesting hind foot) and his face seems too near the left edge of the frame.

nicely captured! i do like the focus and comp... although i kind of agree with @therubysusan about the tail being cut off... one thing i would probably try is to darken the leading line twig somewhat... it is very bright going down towards the bottom right of the image and i find this distracting to my eye...

the fact that his face is near the left of the frame doesn't bother me a bit... gives a bit of tension, perhaps, as if he has places to go... but that isn't a bad thing for my eyes at all :)

@michellina I am no expert but @northy and @therubysusan make some valid points. I think you have done a great job and it is exciting to capture an elusive critter.

@adayinmallacoota @northy @therubysusan thank you for your advices/ideas..I do think the photo would have been better with the lizard having the entire tail..but I had to keep my camera really close and I was afraid it was going to run..As I know there are some macro extensions for Canon and I was thinking about buying one, because I had some troubles taking macro photos with my camera this weekend

This is a great shot. Fabulous DOF! It's not easy catching a good shot of something that is quick! I tried for a year to get a picture of a bird flying...basically I ended up with lots of pictures of wings and tail feathers, or blurs, but very few pictures of whole birds flying! LOL!
