New here and first time doing the 365 project

January 6th, 2016
Hi everyone. My name is Tina. I am trying to figure out how this site works. This is my first attempt at doing the 365 project. I would love to follow people and wouldn't mind friendly feedback. Some tips and overall help with this site would be welcome :) I look forward to seeing everyones photos and inspiration. 😀

Welcome aboard - have a look at the popular/trending/new faces pages under the 'browse' tab - there's some awesome photos on there and once you start following people a lot of them will follow you back and offer helpful advice/hints/tips as you go...above all, have fun and enjoy :)

Hey there. I did a 365 project for two straight years, then pulled back for a couple of years. I decided to come back and try it again. I felt it helped the overall quality of my shots.

almost finished my third year here - at the beginning it was a lot of trial and error and asking questions - don't be afraid to ask questions we are all happy to help - join in as much as you're able and have fun

Welcome! I will let you know that you could never be in a group of friendliest group of people. This is an awesome site!

I recommend clicking the "blog" link on top, then click "last" at the bottom of your screen so that you get to the 1st couple of topics the Ross posted a while back.

Like Graeme said above, look at the popular, trending and new faces photos. Follow any one you like. I get inspiration from them and if I like the photo, I ask for their technique. Everyone is always very helpful.

Welcome, here is a guide that was put together a little while ago.

Getting Started Guide

January 6th, 2016
I a beginner here as well - started only last day of last year :)
What I liked - no mandatory photo upload for specific day (already do not have photo for yesterday) or no mandatory theme (I really don't care about portraits...)

Good luck with your project :)

Welcome to 365 Tina. This is a wonderfully friendly and supportive site. As you've already discovered there is always someone ready to help with any problems you have.

Welcome , couple of things it is your project enjoy it , I found I got out what I put in. So look at the photos and comment , plus ask for help. Also looked at your profile, if you fill in more details this may help. Basically we are all nosy and live to hear where in the world people live and type of photos they like.
Amazing supportive site enjoy.

Give yourself 'some' avatar-image in your profile and tell something about yourself there too. Do all stuff mentioned above and invest quite some time if you feel the social aspect is important. Remember it's your project and yours alone. Act upon that the way YOU feel is right. It will help you through the hard times (they will definitely come). Good luck with your project.

Hi, I've just started a new 365. I did one that started May 2013 and actually took a new photo every single day. It really helped me think about my photography. When I stopped the following year my camera stayed in it's bag much more. Since starting this years I already feel much more enthused and am excited to try new things. I like looking at the latest photos page and often get inspiration from there. Good luck!

I've joined for the first time but so far all my photos have been taken quickly on either my ipad or Panasonic Lumix. I am hoping this project will encourage me to get to grips with my new Canon EOS 1200D and post some better quality pictures. I also like the idea of the project as it gives you a day by day diary of what you have done for 365 days and it will be good to look back on the 12 months. I love looking at other people's photos as they are brilliant!!

I'm also new on here and I noticed that it's really hard to take a good picture every day. Having creative ideas and the motivation to do something amazing every day is challenging me. I don't even like my pictures at the moment because they're not really full of thoughts or emotion. I think this kind of frustration at the beginning could be normal and I don't really think about giving up, but I'd really love to maybe hear experiences from more experienced people on here, or people who are at the same point as I am.

Hello. I'm new too. I don't have much time to spare, so I am taking a photo of the tree outside my house every day for 365 days, mostly with my iPhone as that is usually to hand, although I do have a Nikon DSLR which I will use on days when I have the time. It is a project I have considered before, but never got around to doing.

@tinad @evieheaven @vikki71 @pekanali @claireknight Welcome those new to 365! I'm going to provide my link to 10 reasons to join 365 because you can see that #2 is already in effect--people are so nice here! Asking questions is a great way to start! I'm almost done with year 3 and I can't say I've ever had so much fun learning while meeting people across the globe.

I would like to encourage you to try all kinds of devices to take photos (phones, point-and-shoots, digital, film -- anything) because it allows you the freedom to take something everyday and to experiment. And it's convenient when you see that time is an issue on certain days.

I think it's rare to find a great photo every day, but I don't think it's rare to make a great effort every day. And by that, I mean just the dedication to snap a shot, especially when the motivation is low, should be commended. If you stick with it, you'll see the progress you made!

And I have days still where I am taking a photo of my bedside lamp because it was about ALL I could do to get a shot. Try to stick with a routine. Let the photo skills develop slowly! It's a blast. I promise.

So here is my article to inspire (hopefully!). WELCOME!!!!!

(oh, and last advice--follow people who are starting out on the same dates as you. I am still quite close with people I started with almost 3 years ago! I've met a few in person too!).

@tinad My advice would be, Follow people that you like the photos of. Comment when you can. Don't panic if you get few views. Don't make the challenge a "CHALLENGE". Try to learn a bit. Most of all enjoy.

Hi Tina, .. what they all said!
Just dive on in and have fun! the 'Get Pushed' challenge that happens weekly is a great thing to get involved with and gets you 'meeting' lots of others on the site. http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/26946/get-pushed-faqs

Hi! I'm also new this year and really looking forward to getting feedback and inspiration from all of you. I'm already seeing the challenge of taking a daily photo as I've had to stay home with the flu the last couple of days. Definitely need to be creative and open my mind to new angles and compositions. :)

Welcome Tina! I'm on year 6 and still enjoy 365 just as much as I did on year #1. I would have to "ditto" so many above who've said "it's your project" so keep that in mind and don't feel pressured to do what you don't want to do. It's true the more you comment on someone's pictures and follow them, the more likely they are to do the same for you. And it's so friendly here. You can get critique and feedback in any shape or form but it's never demeaning or demoralizing. I've learned so much from the talent here and it has truly improved me as a photographer to see so many inspirational photographers each day. So best wishes to you and have fun poking around and trying things out- and ask questions when you're not sure- someone always has the answer!
