I'm just starting out with off-camera lighting. Read the strobist blog through, watched the nikon creative lighting dvd, and did some research, asked some friends. But I would like some critique on the light on these pictures. (Not on the post-processing, or the models (me, my mom and dad), but purely the light.)
@feliks flash at full power, shot through a white umbrella (still visible in the glasses), f/8-11 (dont remember), 1/125th, iso100, so I'm guessing it's only flash/no ambient. Second and third one are with a reflector added.
I'm working on some more dramatic shots, but I'm trying some basic stuff first.
@vuokkovuorinnen , if you dont mind i post mine:
first time using OCF for self portrait
1/32 power, left hand holding flash (with off camera cable), right hand on remote shutter....
@feliks I copied these from my facebook, the originals are on my other computer... I'm planning some shoots with some models begin february on different locations, so expect to see some off camera lighting on location then.
purely lighting wise I think the third with a more classic Rembrandt lighting is the 'best', but the light does not seem to be hitting their eyes... I assume you didn't blow out their right sides and my monitor I am using is junk... watch for hands on the face, they make harsh shadows... and try and aim for one catch light...
Did you use some light diffuser? What was flash/ambient ratio?

I found a great fun to take my light set out in diferent locations :)
Another one, little more dramatic
