I think the composition is great and i love the reflection of the white board on the keys.
I cant realy comment on the technical side as i am assuming your phone does not let you control aperature etc. but the right corner seems to be a bit dark, might just be the vignette combines with the lighting on the piaono wood but it distracts me a little and keeps drawing my eye to the dark corner.
I would love to see this shot with some depth of field and a little brighter.
Yep I agree, the corner is a bit dark. If you retake this shot you could try this later in the day when you have softer lighting coming through the window to properly expose the piano OR you could do a HDR or blend multiple exposures. I don't mind the large range in focus, the background is clean and simple so the large DOF is fine.
Hi Stephanie. Always good to ask for critique, so good for you. Piano's are tough sometimes, because of the sharp contrast in Black and White. If it was a landscape, I always like to get down as low as possible, to get the viewer right into an image.
I have shot a couple piano's and I know it can be difficult. My only suggestion, and it is just purely preference, wold be to raise your point of perspective just a little bit. It would show the separation in the black keys from the B-C, and the E-F. Otherwise, they all kind of run together like railroad ties.
+1 to the above comments. Also a note on composition - personally I would like to see more going on. Like Chris said, getting the definition between the keys would give your eye something to focus on and I would add to that maybe moving a bit to the left to get the piano make in the shot a bit clearer and possibly put some notes on the whiteboard in the background so it looks like there is something going on - at the moment it looks a bit like it has just been pulled out of storage (which can also work with a grainy image and streaks of light through dust). Alternatively, keep the exact same shot but put somebody playing the piano. They may have to bend in the get their face in the shot, but I reckon it would look really cool!
But really this is all just being finicky - it is a good shot as is :)
not bad at all for a camera photo!
i actually think the corner is fine - what I'd rather see is more of an angle on the perspective...such as the keys start more in the upper left and lead you to the lower right. I also think, as usual with piano shots, that a strong black and white would have been a bit more powerful.
Seriously though - camera phone. Better than I've ever done with a camera phone.
Hey Stephanie! I like it :)
I am a major picnik fan, so I love using it to edit most of my photos. I like what you've done to the photo. Especially for taking it with a phone, it looks awesome! :)
ps) how did you get the picture attached like that? I've been wanting to start a thread so people can creatique a watermark.
mhmm, the corner closes to the viewer is a bit dark.
composition is pretty good, you might want to consider using lightroom to bring down the blacks, and maybe add some vignetting.
overall, great photo. you cant even tell it was taken with a phone.

Great shot though, gret job.
