New Nikon AF-S 50mm 1.8 lens

I'm wondering if the new 50mm lens will be my new lens. i have a Nikon D5000 and am looking for a 50mm lens for everyday pictures and close up. i dont know whether to get the AF 50mm 1.8 (I know it wont auto focus with mine) or to spend an extra £100 to get the new AF-S version. Does anyone know what its is like/it is going to be like.

Mine is the AF version. Bought it for about 145€. I read that the AF-S is more silent and faster, although I have to say that mine is already fast enough :-)
