The background wasn't at all distracting to me- my eye went straight to the little pumpkin. Had the background been more in focus it might be sightly distracting, but you achieved a nice bokeh. Really sweet shot

The subject should always stand out from the background so I'd say definitely no. The little darling really stands out against the dark background. I'd say it's perfect as is.

if you think it is too distracting, load it into Adobe Lightroom and add some fill light.

I would have prefered if it was all flowers as the background, seems i am the odd one out..

Not until you mentioned it... As he's facing left, I would have framed it so that there was more flowers to the left of him. That's all really. Cute though!
