Just curious what you are looking for? The backlight adds to this picture and the pose is different, so it makes it visually interesting....b&w vs color...don't know cause I haven't seen both. I can't look thru your whole album right now but I'm assuming you are asking if you should do more b&w?
James, when you post your daily shot, why not add a little note in the comment area that says something like, "I'd love to know your thoughts on this" or something to that effect? I've looked through your album, and I like the black and white shots more than the other ones. I hope that doesn't sound rude. This is a good place to learn, just make sure you go to people's projects and comment often, that way, you'll get the responses you are looking for. Just let people know that you are learning and would love it if they would help----I'm sure everyone would love to help you out in any way they can.
As far as this shot goes, for me (and I'm no pro, but everyone has an opinion), I'd like to see a clearer shot. I love black and white; I think it captures people best. Try to capture some candid street shots in black and white maybe.
You'll also find in the "Hot Topics" area on the right a topic about your favorite shot during a certain time frame....I think that would be a great place for people to see your pictures. Posting them randomly in the discussion area might get some people a little feisty.
Crit: BnW is best used when you have a large variation in value (usually) this is mostly the same value, basically black or blown out white. To me this makes it rather uninteresting. As Lacy has also stated this is a little blurry as well.
Try shooting things with more drastic lighting or with a larger range of values if youre wanting to do BnW
Heres a few examples:
This is an example of breaking the 'norm' of a large range of value
But its composition still makes it an interesting BnW
I think that you should defenitely follow @lacedxxoo 's advice. Also just experiment. Try taking them in color and then converting them to B&W to see what they look like. Some shots look better one way or the other. Also if you add the tag critique or critique-me to your photos, you will get tons of feed back. There are numerous threads dedicated for helping people grow and learn. There is even a thread dedicated to critiqueing the person who posted last's shot, then the next person picks yours and critiques it. As far as the album goes, shoot what you are interesed in, not what someone else thinks you should shoot or how you should process. Unlike FB or Linkdin this site isn't really about how many followers, views, favs, PP appreances you get (as nice as it is to get all of those) it's about nurturing photography and improving your skill set and level of competence. For what it's worth, I will be following you and commenting/critquing when I feel I can help out. I am no professional and I am still learning but sometimes even little stuff helps you improve.

@jameshayward I'll take a look through some of your recent photos and leave some critiques, if you like?
