Best Fisheye Lens? I own a Nikon D7000.

So I'm interested into purchasing a Fisheye lens, whatever the right one is. I was looking through this list: http://lenshero.com/lenses/nikon-d7000-fisheye-lens - What would be your choice? Do you already have one? Or what would you get?

Hi Rachel, I have a D7000 also and own the Nikkor 10.5mm f2.8 DX fisheye lens and absolutely love it. I've had so much fun with it. This is a DX lens so it is for smaller sensors like the D7000. it gives the same effect as the Nikkor 16mm f2.8 on a full frame, and it is much newer than the 16mm. If you do get the 16mm, just be aware that on our camera it is actually equivalent to 24mm (1.5X).

The sigma 10mm f2.8 is basically a third party version of the Nikkor 10.5mm. It is also for a cropped sensor camera. There is hardly any difference in focal length, a measly 0.5mm.

All three lenses mentioned above give you a fisheye effect, but fill up the whole frame. The Sigma 4.5mm gives you a picture of a round photo with black edges, like looking through a tube. I'm not a big fan of these as I think the black corners are a waste of space and distracting but that's my personal preference.

I haven't played around with the other lenses such as the sigma, but I believe they would give you a very nice effect also. I have a tendency to only buy Nikon lenses but that's just my personal preference.

One thing to be aware of is that with all the fisheye lenses, even the 10.5mm, the corners of the picture are really soft because it has such a wide angle of view (180 degrees!) but the distorted effect is great!

hope that helps~ :P

I belive the Nikon 10.5mm is probably the best value. I've been very tempted over the years to get one, just not sure how often I'd use it.

If you want to do it cheaply, you can buy screw in fisheye filters you put on your 50mm. Not great quality, but I tried on in a shop and thought it was pretty good for $30 or whatever it cost. See some samples here:

Also, you can take a number of shots, stitch them together in photoshop and apply a fisheye distortion filter. Search on "fisheye effect photoshop". Again, if you want to save some money.

Rachel,
I agree with Michael, the Nik 10.5 mm is a bit pricey, but being a DX, is a perfect addition for your D7000...
If you do get it ...have fun with it.. :D

I'm still looking into it. :) I'm thinking Nikon 10.5mm is probably the best choice so far, but oh my gosh, there are SO MANY LENSES THAT I WANT but HAVE TO PICK just one. Drives me crazy. I'm also interested into ultra-wide lenses, such as the Tokina 11-16mm or the Sigma 10-20mm. Just gotta figure out which would be the best move to do next.
