if i could change one thing about 365 . . .

January 29th, 2012
@scrivna - a suggestion - is there any way we could see the thumbnail of all of a person's albums when we land on any one of their albums; it would save a lot of time in viewing their work. as it is, we have to go the extra step of opening their albums to see if there's anything new to look at.
January 29th, 2012
From any picture, you can click 'learn more' under the person's name, in the upper right hand side, and it takes you straight to a person's profile page, which gives you thumbnails of all three albums.
January 29th, 2012
@beautifulthing - thanks, yeah - i get that, but what I want to do would be a little shorter - see thumbnails of all the albums on the page of whatever photo (in whichever album i'm looking at) to see if I've already seen them or need to go there to view the latest additions.

Since the scheme change, it is hard to tell if there are notifications - the "messages" icon doesn't contrast very well.

Also, while I am happy to see the end of the blue background, a darker grey would be nice - a good mid-grey.

Perhaps a dropdown menu for selecting the month in an album, so one doesn't need to click back through several months to get to where one wants to be?

I'm pretty sure that adds up to one thing I'd like to change...
January 29th, 2012
@jinximages I totally agree with all those one things you'd like to change!
January 29th, 2012
@jinximages - oh too funny; if i were to take my list the three, these would be my other two - i'd especially love if the background could be a grey - most photos look really nice against grey - i almost always settle on grey mats - it'd have to be a neutral gray - not too warm or too cold. I hate (is use that term advisedly after the recent hoohaw) - the new white - either the white looks awful or whites against it look awful - even the blue was better though not my favorite.
January 29th, 2012
I agree with the things already mentioned - better-contrasting new notifications, a darker grey background, month dropdown.

I also think grouped notifications (e.g. discussions vs photos, comments vs mentions) would be amazing. :) A coding feat though, I can imagine!

January 29th, 2012
I'd like to be able categorize my favs so that it is easier to locate the one I want.
January 29th, 2012
I agree with all the above, but also is there any way to change the magnify to include the whole photo? As is stands, when you magnify you can only see the top portion of the photo. I'd rather see the whole photo a bit smaller. But this is nit-picky stuff, Ross. I actually do like the new look alot. Now if you could just program your own version of Picnik...
January 29th, 2012
@lauriehiggins Hi Laurie - This has been discussed many times with no clear conclusion as far as I could see. I do believe that the problem is the size of the monitor - I can't make magnify work on my laptop, but I have a bigger monitor mirroring it and it always works there. People have suggested a lot of other theoretical causes, but someone always disagrees that the suggested problem/solution applies. I remain convinced the issue is size of monitor.
January 29th, 2012
I would love to be able to click on a someone's profile and see their top 10 photos by rank; and their own top 10 favorites from their project.
January 29th, 2012
@lauriehiggins @reba There is a shortcut key to make the whole photo appear. I'd be able to tell you what it is, but my monitors are huge so I've never needed it. @eyebrows is a likely candidate for knowing this info. He just knows stuff.
January 29th, 2012
Totally agree with all of the above... :-)
January 29th, 2012
@jinximages The dropdown sort of works anyway. Just go to your address line and change 2012 to 2011 and the whole year will drop down for you...well, at least it does for me (running Firefox)
January 29th, 2012
@swilde I know I'm a dumbo but what are you saying? What address line?
January 29th, 2012
one thing: being able to see notifications in the mobile site without having to switch to the full version :)
January 29th, 2012
I agree with the above too, but would add that it would be nice when checking notifications to see the whole list rather than just the top 4. It would save an extra step...
January 29th, 2012
@kjarn The main address line on your screen. If you click to open a month (on the tiny calendar icon) it will say e.g. 2012/01 etc. Change the 2012 to 2011 and the whole year will drop down.
January 29th, 2012
@swilde - cool tip; thank you - i wasn't aware of that at all
January 29th, 2012
When I go to the list of people that I follow I would like some kind of indication that I have already looked at their last photo.
January 29th, 2012
@reba Great idea!!!
January 29th, 2012
@jinximages I second the notifications icon... It really doesn't work at all like it did before. The black was a lot easier to note.
January 29th, 2012
@swilde all I get is a message saying 'this page not available'
January 29th, 2012
Kim
Be able to upload via iPhone (thanks to Apple for not liking flash support) :P
January 29th, 2012
@reba @lauriehiggins re the magnifying bit, on my PC (and it's different for makes) when I press the magnify button I also have to go to >fn
January 29th, 2012
@jinximages *curtsy*

@reba @lauriehiggins F11 is your friend. That fullscreens your browser window :)
January 29th, 2012
Oh and, the reason you "can't see" the entire photo by default, is not a design choice of Ross', it's just a nuance of the standard way you'd do that kind of thing in HTML. HTML being the language web pages are written in.
January 29th, 2012
@reba i agree, it would be great if there were thumbnails of other album shots from a day underneath the main photo, so you could easily see if the person has uploaded more. As it works at the moment, it's really hard to keep an eye on people's other albums unless they happen to pop up in your main homepage at just the right time!
January 29th, 2012
@swilde Yeah - there are always editable direct links. Not so easy on a phone though (which is where I usually need this function). But that's a workaround anyway - nowhere near ideal.
January 29th, 2012
I would like to have a "like" button so you can like someone's comment. Would also like the notification bubble to be much darker (as before) when you have a notification. Would like to get a notificaition email when someone replies to either a thread you created, or if someone mentions you in a thread. And finally would like to be able to send someone a personal message (not "personal personal" you understand, but if you wanted to send a longer message either about a photo they've posted or something they have mentioned.

Still love the site though !!

Amy
I would love to see when you're viewing your timeline, and scroll down and down, and then click on a photo, it doesn't take you back to the top of your timeline...so you have to scroll aaalll the way down again.
January 29th, 2012
@jinximages agree, not liking the message icon at all. And I would like a like button...fave often seems a little strong to me. A like button that hooked up to a "what we're liking now" type. Some type of a page for photos or projects that aren't getting views as well...people who need love!
January 29th, 2012
For me right now (and it was stated here already) it's the gray notification icon. I'm not seeing a difference between read/unread messages now.
January 29th, 2012
@amyamoeba Not something Ross can solve, however, there are two solutions you can do yourself :)

1. Use a better browser. Firefox will scroll back to where you were on the page, so will Chrome I believe. Only dumb old Internet Explorer won't. Then when you go "back" in the browser, it'll remember where you were, even loading in all the extra dynamically-loaded content if you went that far. Smashing.

2. Open links to photos you want to see in new tabs by clicking on them with your mousewheel, or if you have no wheel, holding the Ctrl key while you click them, or if that's a pain, right clicking and electing to open the link in a new tab, or if you're on a mac, Command-clicking. Then you just go off and view those images in their own tabs without altering your main "news feed" tab at all.

C'est magic!

@traceysday On your closing point, I made this thing some time ago (which I'm actually surprised to discover still works after the site redesign), although it's a little slow and quite a lot of the people in its database have deleted their accounts, leading to a fair few blank images each time you refresh.
January 29th, 2012
@eyebrows Safari won't go back to your last spot either; I use the open in new tab method which works just fine.

1) A "reply to all" button on the reply thread to a picture. I love to be able to reply to everyone and thank them for viewing my pictures, if you have a ton of comment, that takes so much time and I would rather thank everyone than not thank anyone, but sometimes I don't have the time to go through one by one and hit the reply individually. Then from there you can seek out specific commenters and answer their questions back.

2) I wish when I was looking at the home screen where the pictures of my followers post, that when I comment on their pictures (if I open the big picture) that when I hit my back button that it would go back to where I left off. But instead, I have to scroll back down, load more posts, it takes a lot of time and I tend to give up before I even look or comment.

3) I wish there was a way to know if a picture has ever been on the popular page. LIke maybe an icon next to the picture to indicate its been there? Or an album that includes any of your pictures that ever made the popular page, it's kind of nice to see that, especially if you've missed it. I would also like to know that on the others that I view. What's made the popular page with them? I don't want to miss out on something good!

4) I don't know about anyone else, but often times, I can't get on this page or it takes FOREVER to load, then if I reply, it takes for ever to load. I'm assuming there just must be a lot of people on, playing at the time, that's why it's slow?

@jenp

2. Read my previous post in this thread, it's your browser's fault not the site :)

4. Yep!

Ems
@jinximages Everything I was going to say has been said by you....so ditto!!
January 29th, 2012
@sharonaddison Go to your settings then go to notifications and click on which emails you wish to receive.
January 29th, 2012
Try using Google Chrome it works great for me!
January 29th, 2012
@eyebrows - I did see that. Thanks for the heads up. I'm on a Mac... I' will have to check and see if there is something else I can use other than Safari? I've never looked into it, I guess. Thanks!
January 30th, 2012
@jenp I use Chrome on my Mac. :)
