I just bought this lens and was wondering if anyone out there uses it and/or has posted photos of what it can do on this site. I've heard good things about it, and am very excited to try it out!
Last summary I looked hard at this lens. The 2.8 seems like a no-brainer vs. the smaller aperture Sigma. But I wasn't sure how much I'd use it. Therefore, I'm waiting a whole year to see if I still really want it. I'm halfway through the year, and am still not completely thinking "I have to have it."
BTW, I would always caution people against following Ken Rockwell's advice without doing plenty of additional research. He offers his much-appreciated unvarnished opinion. But he is the first to admit that photography is an art, and therefore what he thinks is best is not necessarily best for you.
I've had this lens for a while & really like using it.
Haven't posted anything on 365project with it yet, but there's a Flickr group for it ( http://www.flickr.com/groups/tokina11-16mm/) and I've posted some stuff in there.
It's a lot of fun & I *still* get freaked out by how close things are when I look up from the viewfinder.
i don't have one myself, but it is on my wishlist. I've read a couple of places on the net that claim this to be the best cropped sensor wide angle lens around at the moment.
@bobg I'm not good at guessing distances, but I was on shore and the ferry was just about to make land. I have another shot that I took at my parents home (sorry, but I don't have their permission to post it) of an entire wall of pictures and trophies, taken from 5 or 6 feet away. I'm still not completely used to the lens - often find my own feet in the shot!
"If you shoot Canon, get the Canon 10-22mm, since it doesn't cost much more and has a much wider and longer zoom range. I have not compared its sharpness, however the Canon's distortion control is superior"
Check out Crazy Ken Rockwell's shpeel on these. The images are really cool. It's what got me to buy one awhile back:

btw, out of curiousity, tokina just released an updated version http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/01/27/Tokina_AT-X_116_Pro_DX_II. Is this what you purchased, or the predecessor?
Thanks everyone for the links and opinions. I can't wait to give mine try, and I'll be sure and post!

So i bought the canon 10-22 lol
I checked out the 10-22 Canon, but it's not a 2.8. It comes out a little under $200 more. I prefer the 2.8 myself, and so far am loving the lens :-)
