Self Challenge

February 21st, 2012
This is more for the people already following me since they have an idea of what I tend to do with my photography, but new people are more than welcome into this thread.....

Since challenges are a weekly thing, and don't always fall within the realm of possibility for me, I've decided I want to challenge myself, but I want the challenges to come from you all. I want to step out of my comfort zones and try new things. So here's the deal.....

I want you to tell me what you want to see from me. What do I have yet to post that you'd like to see me take on? What types of compositions are the ones you typically fave (I'd love to able to give everyone what they want). Your challenge can be vague and broad (like a color or mood), or it can be very specific (flower macro)... whatever it is, just say it.

In the month of March, I will use challenges from here for my shots. I can't promise I'll achieve them all, but I will do my best. What do you think?

I rarely fav portraits but I love "characterization" portraits. I challenge you to give us a wonderful characterization portrait of yourself which shows off your best features and shows you doing what you love most to do! How's that? Now it's not impossible, but it won't be easy.

I challenge you to do more landscape photography -- not necessarily SOOC but with minimal post-processing.

@marlboromaam oh wow... when you issue a challenge, you throw down the gauntlets! LOL This will be WAY out of my comfort zone because I hate how I look in photos... but I will put a lot of thought into how I can pull it off and be happy with it.

i challenge you to take up smoking then taking pics of yourself smoking in different restaurants and other establishments where smoking is not permitted.
February 21st, 2012
@debbim any special type of landscape you have in mind? Just keep in mind I'm nowhere near mountains LOL Its pretty flat in northern/central Indiana.
February 21st, 2012
@grecican I can't do that one. I gave up smoking 5 yrs ago and have no intention of going back.
February 21st, 2012
a week of self portraits. Now mind you I will not be doing it with you because I am not that creative.

Great idea Jeff. Well you know I love b&w landscapes and I know you are getting Lightroom real soon so I'd love to see a dramatic b@w from you. Something processed very cleanly. Might I suggest a trial of Silver Efex Pro2 that you can use with Lightroom. Anyway, you know my style. Looking forward to what you come up with!

challenge you to some zoo animals
February 21st, 2012
@jsw0109 Anything that would be typical Indiana. Can be color or B&W. I see less of that in your photos so just trying to come up with something. Plus I shoot mostly landscape.
February 21st, 2012
Meant come up with something different. V
February 21st, 2012
@brumbe I don't know about a week... one day might be enough to scare people away :)
February 21st, 2012
@jonesp I like that challenge! If I can pull off a Paul Jones-esque b&w landscape, that will be an amazing feat! I'd love to get my skill up to your level :)
February 21st, 2012
@kmrtn6 luckily there are 2 zoos not far from here :) And I LOVE animals anyway
February 21st, 2012
People, you need to photograph some people. A portrait or two, a self portrait or two, street photography of, you guessed it, people. And maybe some kid pictures. :o)

February 21st, 2012
@debbim do you mean you want a typical Indiana shot or something that is NOT typical Indiana?
February 21st, 2012
Ok Jeff,
1. Song titles
2. Seven deadly sins (one a day each week)
3. Colors of the rainbow (in order)
4. Movie titles
5. Strange product placement
6. Nothing but B&W
7. Unusual shapes
8. Photos of people taking photos
9. Old things
10. New things
11. Blessings
12. Photo tricks
13. Macro
14. Self portraits
15. One subject seven different angles (one per day)

You are so creative. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
February 21st, 2012
@jenp I agree with you 100%
February 21st, 2012
@copperheadglass you have some really neat challenges in that list!
February 21st, 2012
I am 100% with Jennifer! She took the words right outta my mouth. I challenge you to photograph total strangers -- that ultimate challenge of going out of that comfort zone and talking to strangers and photographing them!!! If you can't get quite to the stranger level (that is the ultimate level in my mind), then photograph people you know!!!!
February 21st, 2012
p.s. Jeff, I really applaud you for taking on this challenge -- I am sure you will get lots of interesting suggestions, but I am sure you will also get lots of support along the way!
February 21st, 2012
I really have no suggestions, but have often thought about posting such a challenge for myself as I often (like today) don't know what to take a photo of. I am now following you. Good Luck! @jsw0109
February 21st, 2012
I support your challenge- how about water/milk crowns?
February 22nd, 2012
@gark thanks Gark!

@mej2011 thanks Melissa.... if you think of something later, you can always come back to this thread and add it :)

@tklein I'm not sure what water/milk crowns are
February 22nd, 2012
@tklein nevermind... thanks to the popular page now I know what they are :) That's a good challenge!
February 22nd, 2012
ohhh, you've got lots of good ideas here Jeff! good luck!
February 22nd, 2012
@jsw0109 typical Indiana shot.
February 22nd, 2012
@debbim okay... the As Rural As It Gets is pretty typical Indiana.... stuff like that is plentiful all around me, and has been everywhere I've lived in this state.
