24 Exposure, Inspiration, Challenge, Theme, Waffle??!!

May 7th, 2012
So! For three months or so since I started getting seriously enthusiastic about photography I have been managing to find inspiration whilst going about a very mundane life with seemingly not many problems.

Since switching to film I have found the mundane even more mundane than usual and not worthy of wasting film on, In other words I have got mental block as to where to point my camera recently, photography has become a challenge.

Now! I know that I could very easily do a forum search, go on Flickr or even use Google to pull up a million and one lists full of inspiration, challenges or themes. Me being me, I would rather devise my own method out of this slump that I have found myself in recently. I am currently stocked up on Kodak Color Plus from Poundland and they each have 24 exposures so I have wrote myself a list of 24 different ideas,

I'll post it and see what you all think, do you think we could make this a challenge? I don't see why it should be restricted to film users if it were to become one. So enough waffle already, here is my 24 exposure inspiration list (For want of a better term).......

1 - Still Life
2 - Portrait
3 - Street shot (This can be street art or just a shot of a street)
4 - VEHICLE!
5 - Black & White (I'm shooting colour so this shot has to be intended to be processed into a B&W afterwards)
6 - Double Exposure (You can do this with digital, Just hit Google for suggestions on how for those of you that don't have it as a dedicated feature)
7 - Bokeh (Anything so long as there is bokeh in there somewhere)
8 - Monument
9 - Anchored (Find a subject that is anchored by something of the same colour)
10 - Wildlife
11 - Self Portrait
12 - Triple Exposure
13 - Low Key (Take a picture utilising mostly low tones)
14 - High key (Take a picture utilising mostly high tones)
15 - Mid Tones (Take a picture utilising mostly mid tones)
16 - All Tones (Take a picture using as much tonal range as possible)
17 - Derelict ( You can go all in or just take a picture of a run down shop front etc)
18 - Texture
19 - Pattern
20 - Close Up

21 - Use a combination of 3 or more from the list in one frame.
22 - Use a combination of 3 or less from the list in one frame.

23 and 24 These are free frames just incase I see something I must capture you can use them up by making combinations such as a close up textured pattern in something that is derelict.

As you can see most of these ideas are not restrictive and are open to interpretation, they are more a guide line of things to look for within the mundane. I have designed this just to give me a kick start in the right direction again but if any of you would like to have a go with me then just tag your pictures "eddies24" if you feel inclined to do so that is, you could always post your pictures in here I guess.

I know this is probably the wrong time of the month/week to start a challenge/theme but like I said it is predominantly designed for myself, I just thought that I would share it with you lovely people regardless.

Also might I add I am sticking to no particular order, so long as one of them gets used on each frame that is all that matters, nor will I be doing it daily, more like the whole list every couple of days :)
May 7th, 2012
hmmm... you're gonna run thru each and every one of those ideas every two days?? THAT is daunting... i don't think i'd have the time to find things to fit all those items daily :(
May 7th, 2012
@northy That is me personally, you could do one a day, I'll just be using this to look a little deeper at what I have already been looking at every day, so it is going to be a continuation on what I have already been shooting really.

Veichle? I haven't heard of that. What is it?
May 7th, 2012
@tigerdreamer - might be linked to the bit in this thread's title where it says "waffle"?
May 7th, 2012
@tigerdreamer I would say its just a typo. vehicle*
May 7th, 2012
@flagged Thank you for pointing out the obvious for me.. @tigerdreamer @bobfoto Dicks!
May 7th, 2012
@flagged - I see Eddie's CAPS LOCK is stuck now.
May 7th, 2012
@bobfoto Maybe he dropped a waffle on the keyboard
May 7th, 2012
@38mm - with Maple Syrup?
May 7th, 2012
@justeddie you angry bro?
May 7th, 2012
@flagged nah not really, just don't understand why you have to be arse holes over a simple typo, this thread may not be of use to you but someone might find it useful. If you don't have anything constructive to offer don't offer it.

Face to face I would call these fools out, but then again I bet they ain't so comically fresh in real life. Its all good taking the piss from behind a screen and a keyboard.
May 7th, 2012
@justeddie have a quiet word with yourself eh fella. its a bit of banter.
May 7th, 2012
@38mm un called for banter. Ironically the word should be spelt how I spelt it if you were to spell it using phonetics. Trying to make someone look and feel stupid is not good crack.
May 7th, 2012
If these people were amongst my friends then I would accept it as "a bit of banter" but I don't know them from Adam so I will say my piece!
May 7th, 2012
@justeddie Excuse me, I wasn't trying to make anyone feel stupid, and I am sorry if that is how you feel.
I am new to photography and there is a lot of the vocabulary I don't know. I was asking an honest question.
May 7th, 2012
In that case then please accept my humblest apologies, it appeared that you were taking the mick. Especially when wurzel commented sarcastically directly afterwards. The "funny" people on this site tend to run in packs. @tigerdreamer
May 7th, 2012
Sounds like an interesting list, I might try to have a go at it :)
May 7th, 2012
@justeddie lol my comment wasn't even sarcastic. I was simply replying to @tigerdreamer 's post and you call me the "Dick" wow grow up.
@lisjam1 as for the smart ass comments! please point them out as I must be reading a different discussion.
May 7th, 2012
I thanked you and then called the other two dicks! @flagged
May 7th, 2012
@justeddie I wasn't trolling this discussion as a spelling nazi I was here reading it as most would to get more out of this site, and now that you have not called me a Dick makes me feel so much better....oh! but wait your follow up post called me an asshole :P
May 7th, 2012
i stand by that as it appears that you were joining in at that point, don't take a flippant remark to heart though its like @38mm says.. its just a bit of banter! @flagged
May 7th, 2012
@justeddie looks like all the lovely people showed up. : / sheesh people.
This would be a really neat project for a single roll of film, although I think it might take me awhile to do it. :)
May 7th, 2012
I might need the whole weekend to get through it, but I'd like to give it a try. Weekend after next?
May 7th, 2012
@sdpace That was the initial idea. All of my films are 24 exposure and I had loaded a film into a camera just to show my son and had no use for it. I thought this would be a great way to use it, unfortunately there is something wrong with the camera that it was in :( I have taken the roll back out after just 1 exposure so I can take the lens apart and see what is happening, There appears to be a couple of screws rolling around in the casing.

@5unflow3r Weekend after next sounds like a good plan if you read what I have just wrote above! :)

@pizzaboy Thats great! keep us posted and let us know how you find the list, I tried to write the list so that it wasn't too specific and thus giving the user, a greater sense of freedom within the boundaries supplied.
May 8th, 2012
@bobfoto Nice of you to be the big one and apologize Jason!
May 9th, 2012
Accepted, take care of yourself.
May 9th, 2012
@teamoliver Thank you Eddie but there was no need for an apology, I hope all goes well for you in the future. Cheers
