And he sailed off through night and day

and in and out of weeks

and almost over a year

to where the wild things are.

Enjoy your wild things Mr Sendak..

When I was getting my daughter's room ready before she was born, I scanned the cover of that book onto canvas and had it stretched onto a frame to hang in her room. Just love that book. Sad:(

Oh, that's so sad! I am married to a native German speaker, so when we had a daughter together, I made sure that we had a copy of Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen.

I heard an interview with him not long ago. It was so sad. He said his partner had died and all of his friends were dead, so he really wanted to not live much longer. I loved him. It's our loss, but I think he's where he wants to be...where the wild things are.

I think of him often when I'm out in the wild places that I love to visit. I often quote lines from the book too. We are sad but I am sure he is happy and at peace.

I did this photo over a year ago for my literature into photo challenge.
the title "Oh, please don't go - we'll eat your up - we love you so! really fits today.

I read his book many, many times to my son. My son is 31 and we still have that same copy of the book. We knew it by heart. So sad to hear of his passing.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it" :)

One of my absolute all time favorite illustrators. At his age I'm certain he still had a head full of stories and pictures. In addition to Wild Things, I love In the Night Kitchen, Higglety Piggotty Pop, the Little Bear series by Minarik, the amazing pen and ink drawings for Under the Junniper Tree, a collection of very Grimm fairy tales, and of course the Nutshell Library.

"I CARE," said Pierre.
