Colour management new printer..help please

Hi. I have looked at the previous discussions but still getting stuck, please can anyone help. I have a new (whippee) canon printer..but what am I doing wrong?...
I have a spyder and calibrate my screen, then save the profile, and it loads each time I boot up.. so I think my screen should be displaying ok..??
Then I go to use my printer, I always print from lightroom.. so
In lightroom do I select colour management, managed by printer??
Then in the printer itself, using colour management properties do I select use my settings for this device the paper type profile, or do I use another profile?

Or do I leave the printer and just select the paper type in the properties?

Or do I set the colour management in lightroom and if so do I use the paper profile of another??

I have no idea if what I've asked above makes sense, but if anyone can help I would save a lot of ink, paper and time, and be really appreciative!!

If you have calibrated your monitor correctly then that is half the battle.

When I set up mine (an Epson, not a Canon, but I don't think that is relevant) I went into the printer settings and disabled colour management. I then set Photoshop (sorry, I don't use Lightroom) so that Photoshop manages the colour. Finally I downloaded the profiles for the printer/paper combinations for my printer, and set Photoshop to use the correct (glossy, mat etc) profile for whichever paper was in. It seems to work.

The main thing that you need to make sure is that colour is only managed in one place - either in Lightroom, or the printer/driver, but not both, and not neither.

@harveyzone Thank you again for your help. Unfortunately I tried managing through lightroom and everything was very orange, so I have set lightroom to allow manage by printer, and the in the printer properties - colour management I have selected use my settings, and Ive set the profile to automatic. Then I select the paper type in the print dialogue with the printer and at last I seem to get some 'matching outputs'.. I am just wondering what I will get if I send the images off to a lab... oh dear..
Thanks once again for taking the time
