I don't know if anyone can help but since we got a new computer I notice some pictures that I had taken are coming up in Windows programs like Photo Gallery with a funky look. It's mostly pictures taken outside with trees and grass in them.
When I bring them up in a browser like Opera or put them on my desktop they look fine. It's just in Windows programs that they look strange. It's almost like there is too much contrast or darkness in them.
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful.
Could be color space issues. Are shooting in Adobe RGB? Most internet browsers use Standard RGB and could change colors you selected.
It is a must to what color space is used by the final place you put your image (website or printing). Then work in that color space for taking your image and post-processing that image to keep the colors as you want them.
It is good to read more about color space. There are times when more information in your image (RAW and/or aRGB) is useless and cause more issues than using JPEG and sRGB.
@mittens OK, well, JPG or not you need to know what colour space was used in the image. In the Windows photo viewer that I'm familiar with you can right-click an image, choose "Properties" from the context menu that appears and somewhere in there it should tell you what colour space the image is using.
@smalbon Thank you for replying Stephen.
In the properties of the picture it said Color Representation was sRGB.
I don't why it's only affecting shots with grass and trees in it. It's frustrating.
The pictures look fine in picmonkey, too, but when I save back onto the computer, they look funky again.
@mittens Oh, and I was originally opening them in the default photo viewer that came with the computer but am now opening them in Photo Gallery and it has the same problem.
Okay, I just brought up the picture in the online editor ribbet and it looked fine. I tried to duplicate how it looks on my computer and when I turned the contrast up real high it kind of replicated what it looked like.
So I guess the colors are okay since the deer is still brown and the grass is green but it looks kind of out of contrast. That's the best way I can describe it.
@smalbon I wish I was more computer savvy to troubleshoot problems but I'm having a hard time figuring it out. My husband knows more the I do about computers and he thinks it might be a software problem in the two Microsoft programs that we are using to bring up the pictures. We don't know what to try, though, with fear of messing things up in the computer.
I guess we'll just have to keep working on how to fix the problem.
@chapjohn@smalbon
I think I fixed the problem. I posed the question in the search engine that the photo colors were showing wrong in Photo Gallery and it took me to a sight that had a suggestion what to do.
I followed the instructions that took me to color management on my computer and to reset the default for my programs.
You both have been so helpful in helping me solve the problem. Thank you.
