Is there anything more fun than using your talents to photograph friends and family? I love how the holidays give us an opportunity to get together and have some fun!!
Please share your recent family and friends photos here!
Don't forget to tag them with this week's "theme-together" when appropriate!!
Isn't if great when photos reveal emotions and personalities. Yesterday, I was taking photos of my niece Laura and her boyfriend Tim. Timmy Tatts is a tattoo artist with a quirky fun personality. He isn't afraid to commit to the moment.
I wanted my processing to match this dynamic duo and hope I did them justice.
But my answer to your question is no!!!!! Not fun at all... I suck at people shots, especially posed people shots, and now everyone has these really high expectations of me... ;)
Family photos really shouldn't be stuffy formal photos. The photos we smile at the the most are those taken impromptu. It's is those moments when we are compelled to capture the essence of the people in them. It is the reason we love these people. Family photos are much more personal than stranger photos and should always reflect that in them.
@northy --- I am surprised to hear this from you. You take beautiful creative photos. Might I suggest you relax, take a deep breath, and let the moments unfold naturally. Don't put expectations on what you photograph just photograph the moments as they happen naturally. Just have fun.
You did a great job and captured their personalities quite well I think. I'm not really good at family shots either- mostly because my camera is not "quick" enough for them. But, my son and daughter-in-law did want me to take shots of their family when my grandson was born this past July and I'm quite pleased with how they came out. This was my favorite:
@swguevin i have a few dotted here and there... and truly, if i snap away i'll inevitably get one or two decent ones... but never can i get the three boys together in a decent shot... and they are rapidly becoming fed up with me chasing them around with my camera... this weekend is "take a shot for the christmas card" weekend and i am dreading it... the thing is, i can get them to cooperate for 5 minutes, but i'm not good at lighting or giving direction and they haven;t the patience to hang around while i figure it out... the really good shot i got of my oldest a few weeks back is entirely due to the fact that he was motivated to cooperate and i got him talking which helped keep him engaged... this doesn't work when i am trying to get all three at once... sigh...
I was asked if I could take a good group photo of my husband's grandma and her children at her 80th birthday earlier this month. I figured I'd put the effort in and take my stand and umbrella along and try to do it right! And I offered to take pictures for anyone else who wanted some, so I did a number of smaller family group shots as well. This was right after a family shot, as the adults were leaving the scene. I'd gotten a decent smile from the boy by telling him if he smiled nicely for one picture for me, he could make a funny face for the next one. The adults took off, but the two kids hammed it up for a bit, and I snagged this fun one!
