Welcome to 365! This is a repost of a whole lot of posts with information and inspiration that can be helpful starting out. I am just accumulating them in one thread so I can then bookmark the one thread.
The basic thing that almost everyone here agrees on - Your project, your rules as long as the image you post is your own. Have fun and enjoy the ride!
Here are some links that might answer a lot of questions and help you get started:
It seems that every year around this time, 365Project prepares to welcome a bunch of new arrivals (or returning veterans) who vow to produce a photo every day for the entire year beginning January first!
While I'm not the first, I stand in line to welcome you with open arms! At first, this place can seem bit daunting, but rest assured there is more help here than you can handle! There is never a question you can ask that someone on here (usually several someones) isn't itching to answer! Many questions have already been asked in the past, and many of those can be found by conducting a simple search using the search box at the top right of this page.
Don't be afraid of posting your photos; everything is welcome, representing every level of aptitude and technique. From photos of a messy face after a first birthday party to multiple exposure light painting in the French Alps; we have it all and it is all welcome.
My best advice to you; treat this project as your own, because that is exactly what it is. If you miss days, don't worry about it (unless that is an absolute show-stopper for you). I've found that MANY who have hung their hat on exactly one photo per day without exception do not finish their project. Most mold themselves to the reality of life and many of them change their philosophy about what they want to get out of this project and find themselves enjoying the experience much more.
My goal when I started a couple of years ago was to become a better photographer and artist, and I feel I've achieved that goal tenfold!
Please, don't be discouraged with any negative you might see on this site; like any other place on the internet we are a big family from around the world with TONS of different experiences and opinions. Many on here aren't afraid to make their opinions known, which is great! Just ignore the ones you disagree with, or try to see their perspective. Either way, this is YOUR project so you are in control of it at all times.
Can I add the favourite fav thread to this? Every Friday I start this thread so we can share our favourite shot of another 365er. To share the shot just go to the photo, to the right you'll see an orange share box, below this is the code to copy and paste into the thread. remember to credit the photographer by also including their username i.e. @nadaa
@psychographer Thanks Lisa. I started this as a newcomer's thread, but as you can see, it became about about creating an index of useful threads for myself. I love the favorite Fav thread. I don't have a lot of time to spend here these days unfortunately, and that thread always catches me up with some of the beauties of the week!
I hope other people add their favorite resources here as well. It will be helpful to us all I think.
I am trying to push myself to start my photography business and with a rough 2013, I am hopping that I can get 2014 off to a better start. I need to freshen up on some skills plus developing new skills. I am so glad that I found this site. I welcome any criticism.
this is a great thread to go through, today is my 1st day and I am looking forward to posting daily (or as often as i can) and learning more about myself and others as a photographer.
Thank you for creating this. x
As a newbie here, I appreciate this collection of advice and encouragement. Some days I find myself inspirationless, so reading the various posts and suggestions will help to nudge my creativity. Thanks!
hi am not sure if this the right thread to post this. but am just wondering if there is an app for iOS gadgets that I can download and use to upload my photos instead of using the browser to upload them. thanks.
@magnificant_moments The "Browse" tab allows you to look at the photos posted. Find people whose work you enjoy and follow. Comment on people's work, and people may comment and follow back.
