In the 1960’s, American photographer Arthur Tress’ interest shifted from documenting things as they were to creating more surreal images. To do this, he enlisted the help of children, who would tell Tress about their worst nightmares. From listening to the kids’ bad dreams, he would get all of these truly bizarre and terrifying characters, themes, and symbols–the perfect fodder for the dark, disturbing pictures he was looking to take. Combining real life with the bone-chilling creations only a child’s mind could come up with, Tress’ photography will likely get your skin crawling in a way no other has before.
I think they are cool. But, most of them just look like bad Halloween costumes, or Terry Gilliam illustrations from Monty Python. I guess the scariest was woman who is also a decrepit chair, but it reminded me of Harry Potter (Professor Slughorn).
Is it good if I don't find them scary, or is it bad?
@mzzhope I thought exactly the same thing. Creepy elephant toy!
Hmmmm, fascinating!!! Hardly any special effects or unusual props. And yet . . . CREEEEEEPY!!! I could get into a child's nightmare challenge with a great deal of enthusiasm! Maybe tweak my creepy elephant a bit? Ha ha ha! ;)
@juliedduncan@northy@spanner So who is going to start the "child's nightmare" challenge? I'd play! Do you want me to start it? Or, how about something along the lines of "dreams" and/or "nightmares" as a theme? You know you have one of those crazy things and nothing makes sense! Urban legends would be a good theme too!
first to the post wins... someone take the lead and start the challenge :)
(it won't be me - i've got to set up the next round of get pushed pairings today)
i think "dreams and nightmares" as a theme sounds fabulous... back when i first started on 365, i happened upon a photog here who was doing this theme as a series for school... i got tons of inspiration from that...
