Just wondering if anyone was a member of the Guild of Photographers and if it was worth joining? I live in Australia now, and was wondering if there was an equivalent here? And if that was worth joining. Or is it really only beneficial to professionals?

I've been toying with joining AIPP for a while and am wondering the same thing. There's also APS, I don't know if they are essentially pretty similar or completely different?

I have also been thinking of joining one or the other. I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has already joined.

Hi Helen, I was just at a photography education exhibition yesterday and had a chat with representatives from both AIPP and APS. I'm not sure exactly what type of body the Guild of Photographers is or what your interests are, but the guy from APS (Australian Photographic Society) described it as "Australia's largest camera club" - for enthusiasts of all levels. They have events, competitions etc. AIPP is more of a professional body but is also open to all levels. There is mentoring available for emerging photographers, including business related stuff, various events, workshops etc as well. I'll be joining at this level (emerging) and hope to take advantage of that stuff as I'm trying to start a birth photography business. I would check out the websites for each http://www.aipp.com.au and http://www.a-p-s.org.au
