Photography phone apps

August 20th, 2014
I just invested in a new phone - I'm bringing myself into the 21st century with a phone and a camera in one rather than carrying around a compact with me. I've seen some really talented work on here from iphones and things so I'm looking forward to trying it out.
So I was wondering... any tips on good apps to get to get. Mine is an HTC that runs on android.

I have the iPhone 5C but I really like Snapseed. Not sure if it's for Android or not, but it's pretty cool.

BeFunky on android is pretty good, i can't seem to find snapseed for android.

Snapseed is average for the course. But if I want to edit something, it takes 5 seconds to bring them into the PC and use a powerful editor to make up for the JPEG out of the phone that usually needs all the help it can get. I can't see detail on the phone screen anyway.

Instagram for fun :D

My main project is/will be exclusively iPhone images. Currently I use the Camera+ app as my camera app, I just downloaded SlowShutter and will eventually give that a go when I have time to play around with it. For post-processing I do that on my Mac with Adobe Camera Raw & Photoshop. The iPhone screen is just to small and my fingers too clumsy to be effective. Having said that, I've found that the editing side of Camera+ is pretty darn good.

I love snapseed and pretty sure you can get it for android. The other thing I use a lot is touch retouch. It's a 'remove annoying things from the shot' sort of app. Have a look, it's kinda clever :-)

I use Photoshop Elements. I like Instagram, which now has more manual fine tuning of images instead of just the canned retro effects, but it still only allows for square cropped photos. Flickr gives you more control over the photo dimensions. If you're looking for something more like Hipstamatic (still not available for Android) there Retro Camera--which offers a variety of Holgaesque camera choices and "films". To be honest I use the iPad much for frequently for basic photo editing, but I don't have an iPhone so have to put up with a smaller selection of good photo apps. Also check your phones camera menu--you'll find a variety of options and picture dimensions to work with if you haven't already.

Snapseed is definitely available for android as that is what I use on my android phone and tablet. I love it, but I do somewhat agree with the others that say it is easier to bring your shots onto your computer and edit from there.

I agree with the Snapseed comments. I love it for editing on the phone and sending directly to instagram, FB or whatever. But if I want to do any major editing I do pull them into my computer and use Photoshop.

I use snapseed and pixlr express on my android phone ..... I also use camera HDR studio but have to say that it is a bit temperamental!

Like other's though ...... I will upload photo's onto my computer and use that for anything other than fairly basic or fun editing.
