Good Photography Classes in DC, MD, VA area?

August 23rd, 2014
Hello Friends,

I am sure this topic may have come up before - but as my search did not yield any helpful results I am putting this out there again

I am enjoying a break having completed my first 365 project earlier this month - but wanted to invest in a few classes/workshops (classroom setting) to improve my skills.

I have off course searched online and found some but would rather rely on the personal experience/wisdom of this group. I have registered in one from Nikon for November - any thoughts/feedback on these?

I am primarily interested in portraiture and lighting. Anybody know of some good classes/workshops in the DC area?

Much appreciated
Vijay

The Corcoran School of Art used to have a good photography department but it's undergoing a financial upheaval and may not be offering classes. I've taken a couple of classes at Howard Community College here in Columbia but I thought they had too much emphasis on Photoshop -- half the semester. I often think about my dream class which would involve field trips and more intensive instruction in the use of my camera. The instructor would set up a still life and all of us would photograph it, using the same lighting so we could compare our work and see how we each responded to the subject. Detailed critiques from the instructor would be nice instead of random responses from students such as "I like that." I want to learn how to use my camera and then move on to Photoshop.

@catwoman2 I agree with your "dream class" - just don't want to sit through a lecture but would rather actually see it practically applied. Thanks for your response Mary

@friend2303 are there any local camera clubs that could help.
