dust and set-up shots

September 25th, 2014
ok folks - what are your secrets for eliminating dust in close up set-up shots... i've been using a swiffer cloth and it's just not cutting it... photoshop works wonders, but the healing brush gets real old real fast ;p

so - glass, mirrors, floors, tiny toys, chess pieces... what do you do to get rid of the dust?

:D I like the air duster spray cans, Always keep them around as they work wonders on the lenses and sensors too, aswell as my pc fans exc, when im taking shots on perspex (which infuriates me with how much dust it attracts) i give a quick burst and its gone x

windex for mirrors and glass. for chess pieces, maybe wash them with warm water and soap?

@amyleewinfield yes! a new toy... excellent idea :)

@summerfield - forsooth! what is this "water and soap" of which you speak? ;p (i don't do "rational" past 8pm)

put a little bit of dish soap just a little on warm water on the sink. wash the chess pieces then rinse and dry. the trick is to find that micro-fibre cloth to dry them. or you know that liquid used to clean eye glasses? that's good for keeping dust off!

@summerfield you're supposed to clean eye-glasses????????

;p

@amyleewinfield @northy "tinned air" is awesome stuff, works a treat and it's fun to spray at the dogs as well!
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens does it work on kids?

Be careful with canned air. Some of it contains propelants which will kill your camera, especially if you get in inside the workings (like on the sensor). The anti-static cloths that you get for eye glasses are fabulous. They get rid of the dust and if you use them on your glasses you can actually see what you're photographing

@swilde Very cool advice...never would have thought of this and it makes a lot of sense!

Lens cleaning cloth will work well. Even better than anti-static spectacle wipes.
