Poppies at The Tower of London

October 15th, 2014
Dear 365 friends far and wide,

I learned about the poppy project at the Tower of London only because of my friends here on 365. I've become quite captivated by the whole undertaking. I am certain I will not be making a jaunt across the pond in the next month to see it as we near the culmination of the project November 11.

I know there are only so many ways people can take pics of the poppies but I would like to see those ways. So, if you've taken a picture or are going to take pictures, will you share them here? I, for one, would be grateful to see the many angles and interpretations of the project.

Many thanks, in advance, who allow me a peek I wouldn't have any other way.

If you do a search on 'poppies' most of the ones on here will come up.

@kiwiflora Thank you, Francoise. I was thinking of it more as a shared community-building experience.

I am going to see the poppies on the 30th October & will be posting some I'm sure on this site. We are going as late as we can as there will be more poppies the nearer to the final day on the 11th. Apparently it's a very moving site & I'm really looking forward to going.

The Poppies are such an evocative sight, news this evening is that majority are sold which will raise lots of money for forces charities. A friend has ordered one for me for a Christmas present and I will be so thrilled and touched to keep one. I could not chose one picture so posted a collage the other day this is a single one also taken last Tuesday. The shadow seems very apt

@barneyone Thank you, Rita. The shadow is apt. I can't imagine the sheer scale of the sight. I appreciate you sharing.

I would love to see them here too - thanks for organising it

@happypat @paulaw so envious. Would love one of these and to see in real life.

I took this photograph of one of the volunteers posing for a photograph.

@jantan Thank you! I think it was your photo that put me on the path of following the poppy project! I appreciate your sharing here!

@paulaw These are spectacular! :) I can only imagine what it feels like to be there and take it all in in person. Thank you, so much, for sharing!

@creampuff Wow! I hadn't seen a photo with a volunteer in it yet! Thank YOU! I'm awed by their undertaking and dedication. Fabulous photo.

Ooo I'm going next week! I bet the sky will be grey and awful when I go haha.
October 18th, 2014
@voiceprintz You are welcome, and thanks - I am flattered
October 18th, 2014
@miley89 It was very grey (in fact pouring down) when I went, but it made the colours look a lot richer in my photos

you can buy the poppies on the web site as they are taking the display down soon - £25 each money goes to legion
October 18th, 2014
Typical London. Are you allowed to go close to them? @jantan
October 18th, 2014
@miley89 You look down upon them in the moat. You can get the idea best from the photo in Paula W's collage above.

An update on the art installation at the Tower of London. It was supposed to close tonight, be "picked," and shipped shipped to those who purchased each ceramic flower beginning tomorrow. Those plans have changed. Read here: http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/07/world/europe/tower-of-london-poppies/index.html?hpt=wo_c2
