Ouch and oops, both valuable pieces of kit, lens and player. The only consolation for the cameraman is that he can buy the lens in the US far cheaper than if he had to replace it in the UK!!!!!
While I can understand the need for getting a good shot, I don't know that I would take a camera lens like that down on the field. I have stood on the sidelines. It's a dangerous place when giant football players come running full speed at you. And for the player, an injury could end a very lucrative career in the NFL. I guess the photographer is lucky that the play hit the lens and not him.
