"Ghost" Photography

January 25th, 2015
I was wondering if anyone has ever had any experiences with "unusual" (ghostly) objects in their photographs, especially those of you who like to take photos in cemeteries. I took some photos this weekend in Savannah, Georgia, at the Bonaventure Cemetery, and in one of them, there were some unexplainable figures. I will post them for comments and just wondered what the consensus is on photos of this nature. I don't know what to think. . . .

I have shot "ghosts" on purpose. If not on purpose then I usually have not cleaned my lenes of smudges.

@chapjohn So you think "ghosts" or "spirits" or whatever, for you, were due to smudges?

Photo 1: This is a photo I took of some rocks on a wall in Savannah, Georgia. As you can see there is an American flag in the photo. Take note of the two headstones to the left with the diagonal limb between them (photos taken at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia). As you can see, there are no people anywhere in the photo. I then focused my camera to get a close-up of the rocks on the wall - see Photo 2 (no people around whatsoever, but I cannot explain this photo). Help!

Photo 2: This is a photo that I took in Savannah, Georgia, last weekend at the Bonaventure Cemetery. When I took this photo, there were absolutely no people around . . . cannot explain it (see Photo 1 for further explanation).

Savannah's the place to be for ghost photography! OK the second pic creeps me out though, that;s nuts!! On a totally separate note, I LOVED Bonaventure cemetery!!! You're making me want to go back!

@luvmynynix Yes, it creeps me out too . . . for a few days, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was mystified and freaked out when I saw it! Yes, Savannah is the best! Where do you live?

We live in New York, but my husband and I have visited every (contiguous) state on our motorcycle. Savannah was one of our first destinations. We went there right after I read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Bonaventure Cemetery was a MUST! :)

you have a gap of more than 30 seconds between shots. someone could've passed by in that time frame if maybe there was an incline in the path?

A little bit freaked out right now.

It may be some type of reflection off of the flag. .the fact that the figure is wearing red white and blue seems like too much of a coincidence

Yep Ghost... Looked at both shots time 9:23 pm.. I think the shot was am .. But both shots the same time. No time for some one to run in. So you got GHOST!!! Either go back and get some more shots of them ... OR RUN!!!!

There were bending down behind one of huge stones tending to one of the graves during your first shot... Stood up just as you were taking your second shot... Only cos, y'know, ghosts don't hang out mid morning on a sunny day ;p

i wouldn't run, mind you. i'd talk to them and ask to take a proper photo, maybe a selfie with them. :-)

The rational side of me says two people walked into the shot while you were distracted focusing on the rocks, but the "believer" side of me says...Ghosts, AWESOME!

@lbluejaye8 WOW! How exciting to catch the ghostly figures!! My husband has several aunts, uncles & cousins buried in Bonaventure, and Savannah is noted for ghosts being sighted in many of the hotels and inns. Now you got me wanting to "haunt" one of our older local cemeteries and see what I can find. :-)

I too have ghost.

I'm with @northy on this... and the right hand 'figure' may be just bokeh from light filtering through the trees.

ha! I don't have photos, but I have recordings! ;) I love Savannah...never got to that cemetery though. Maybe next time!!
