Getting noticed

March 18th, 2015
So I am relatively new to this, but the passion is for sure there. I am curious if anyone has tips or ideas of how to get your photos "noticed?" When I say noticed I just mean by others and to have followers critique your work. As I work harder at growing in my photography I know that words from peers tend to be some of the most useful. So any tips on how to get people to take notice would be much appreciated.

welcome! my best advice would be to get involved. Comment on photos you like and fav the ones you really like. Follow people. If you don't do that it's hard for anyone to see your photos. They don't stay on the "latest" page very long.

one other thing.. when you respond to people who comment on your pics be sure to click on reply so they get notified.

@mdbphoto excellent! I'm sure you'll have a great experience here. it's hands down the nicest, friendliest community I've ever been a part of.

challenges are a great way to get involved. Keep your eye on the discussion boards to see what's going on at any given moment

Yep, The more you comment and follow others, the more will come back to you. There's no secret in getting noticed.

If your objective is to get people to constructive critique or constructive feedback on your work, then having followers is no guarantee in getting that. I actually asked a similar question awhile back in the forums ( http://365project.org/discuss/general/24856/thoughts-about-the-comment-box-and-the-etiquette-on-its-use) and what I determined based on everyone's feedback is that as HippieChick123 mentioned, this is one of the nicest, friendliest community in photo sharing sites and they will provide you a lot of positive supporting comments BUT very little constructive critique/feedback. The general rule is if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

If you want constructive feedback or criticism, use the critique feedback forum.

Or bug me once in awhile and I'll give you my personal opinion on what works and what doesn't. I generally try to be pleasant and supportive but I can't promise that either :-)

We also have a little code. If you preface your commentary to a photo with the letter CW it means critique welcome and that you won't be put out by what the critique is.

Welcome, you tend to get out what you put in on this site. So as all above say get involved and enjoy.

Welcome, and I have to second others who say that visiting and commenting on people's photos is the way to go. You do engage in a dialogue this way, and many times I find myself going and checking out project of many who comment on my pictures, even if I am not officially "following" them. I think also, what many here appreciate is constructive criticism - by this I mean that I personally love when people stop for a second and take time to think what they really like or don't like about the photo, and what they would suggest on improving. I know, not everyone is looking for that kind of criticism, but many post "critique welcome" or tag their pictures with "critique-me" to get feedback like this. This is a great way to find connection to others' projects and showcase your own work and share the knowledge. Once again, welcome!

Thank you all for the feedback! I have broad shoulders and for sure can handle the constructive with the positive. I think this will be a great experience!
