I am hoping to see it in South Wales UK ~ have plans for photographing it but depends now on my daughter ~ I may have to step in for last minute granny duty/school run as her partner is sick
I hope to yes, if we get a break in the clouds! I'm in the Midlands, UK where we're expecting an 85-90% eclipse, exciting:)
I'd welcome any advice - I've been looking on the internet but am still a bit confused about whether I'm going to fry the insides of my camera if I use an ND filter rather than having a proper "solar" filter.....
@sue_s@voodoomole its not advised to use ND filters, and I am not saying you should BUT I did yesterday and this was the result. My settings etc are all in the description for this shot. My camera is still working as are my eyes ~ I need to tweak the settings for tomorrow a little as this was a little too dark
@alisonp@voodoomole Thank you for your advice! I'm actually waiting for Amazon to deliver a cheap 10 stop ND filter that I think will do the trick, it was due today but it hasn't arrived yet....... @alisonp Your photo looks great, I hope that you get the chance to try your set up out tomorrow.
I'm off to our local photo group this evening, we're planning to discuss the eclipse so I'll post again if there are any nuggets of wisdom!
knowing my luck, it'll be raining............. on the west coast of Scotland and in the 98% coverage zone but it'll no doubt be Argyll sun here tomorrow morning :-(
@sue_s Please do share some of those nuggets :-) ... I have been called foolish and all sorts by some from a club I used to go to for even trying without a solar filter ... LOL
@alisonp No brilliant nuggets really! Somebody thought that the difference with the solar filter compared to ND filter might be better filtering of Infra red? Also that having Live view on for too long could damage the sensor as it lets a lot of light in, I didn't know this.
So I reckon I'm going to give it a go with my 10 stop ND filter (and maybe a variable one on top of it ,not sure how many stops that one is). Given how old and well used my camera is I'm prepared to risk the sensor, but not my eyes so I won't use the viewfinder!
@sue_s thank you ~ I have 3 nd's totally 14 ... I also have an IR filter 720 and a 850 so might give that a go on top too LOL ~ the live view info is great thank you ~ I used the view finder for my shot above ~ I have focused already and use handheld ~ so the sun was in my field of view briefly ~ good luck! hope you get the shot/s :D
We were so lucky with the weather so I managed to take lots of photos, and my camera doesn't seem to have come to any harm:) Here's one of them. I'll sort through the rest later.
I do hope that the skies cleared for everybody else as well.
@sue_s I ended up using the IR 850 filter ~ I also have a few to go through, but this is one of teh earlier shots ~ needs some editing to get the colour right, but I like this one :-) and if you look closely enough I got the sun spot at 11 o'clock ish they were talking about on the TV
I haven't chosen/uploaded an image here yet but I was in the zone where we had some perfectly clear moments and some thin cloud so was lucky! This shot was just after first contact https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CAjSCgWWMAAeaHi.jpg:large

We're in luck with the eclipse nicely visible through light cloud:) First few pics on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NewLeafImages?ref=hl
