I work in a long term care facility and at times sit in on a meeting with our Pain Group. Sometimes residents tell us they are in severe pain, yet they move about fairly easily and participate in activities. As each person's pain is subjective, pain management is provided via medications, music therapy, recreational therapy, etc.
For the past two years, I've shared a PowerPoint presentation of pictures I've taken set to music. Shown in a cozy room with soft lighting, these pictures help our residents escape from their reported pains. Residents rate their pain prior to the presentation and after and in every instance, their pain is greatly diminished from watching the presentation and listening to the soft, soothing music.
I thought this year it would be wonderful to present to our residents pictures from around the world. In the past, they've particularly enjoyed landscape and nature photos.
Would you be willing to contribute a picture (or two) to this project? I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you,
Linda
** Update 12/18/10 - I am going to name this "The Love Project" :) **
*** update12/19/2010 11:40 AM ET- At this time I am going to stop accepting contributors as it will take me quite sometime to move through all the wonderful photographs and narrow down my selections! ****
You are welcome to use these for the abovementioned project if you think they will be useful or anything in my 3 albums that you think may suit. Would love to know if you do happen to choose any :) Best wishes for your project
Ditto! If you see a photo from either one of my albums, I would be happy to share them for such a worthy cause. Please let me know if you do choose something so that I know which ones are appealing to your group! Also, will you by chance have the PP posted online anywhere? Great project--good luck!
This is a brilliant idea. More power to your cause and please scan my project for anything you think would be helpful. If possible let me know what you've used just for my own interest. Good luck.
Nt too sure of what you would like but I have 2 albums one Nature at it's best and one Sunrise/Sunset feel free and use anyhthing tht might be fitting. I know there are so many wonderful landscape pictures around that are a lot better than mine.
You're welcome to use any of my shots Linda. If you do choose to use them, I could send you a copy without the border and watermark if you'd like. It sounds like a great project.
oh thats a great idea , any of mine u are welcome to as well .... i work in an aged care facility and know how much joy it brings to them when seeing photos.
Let me know if u'd like them on CD im happy to send them to u
I don't have many nature and landscape photos... please take a look at my album and use any which you think may contirbute. Just leave me a comment that you're gonna use it. Keep up the good work!
You are welcome to look through my photos as well. Let me know if there is anything you would like to use and I can try and get you a higher resolution file. =)
You are welcome to use any pictures from my project. If it helps you select, these are nature/scenery pictures that have been the most popular on 365, so they may appeal to your audience. They are all taken in Cape Town, South Africa. You are also welcome to use any others. It is a great gift you are giving.
I would be glad to contribute! It sounds like a really great project. Feel free to have a look through my photos and use any you fancy, but please leave a comment so I know which you've picked. :-)
So many great photos on this thread...
Anyway, if you want to use some of my landscapes and some nature, check out wallpaper page on my site. They are big enough for display on the wall. Adres is: http://www.filiplucin.com/wallpapers/
As a nurse in a long term care facility I see up front the daily struggle of trying to manage pain without use of narcotic medication, so your project intrests me greatly! Here are a few shots that I think might work from my project, but please feel free to use whatever may interest you:) good luck with your continued success with this project!
I am overwhelmed by your most generous responses! I'm sitting here in tears at the generosity and caring of you all. As I move through your sites and download your picture, I'll leave you a note to let you know that I've included it in the project. I will do my best to get it online, somewhere, so you all can see it too.
Brilliant idea - good on you. Here are three shots, statistically two of them are my best, but the third has a gorgeous little boy in it - good luck with the slide show.
Essowira, Morroco - he's called Cappucino and he didn't have bad breath!
These love birds were in the courtyward of my hotel, Chichicastanengo, Guatemala
This little chap and his mum were in the market at Salola, Guatemala
I come from Quince Cottage, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, England
I don't if any of mine would be suitable, but I would be happy and honored to contribute. You can browse my album here and if you need better quality, I can send you the files.
feel free to take anything you want from mine :) my father is a physiatrist and specializes in chronic pain management. i worked in his practice for about four summers and learned so much....i would be happy to help!
Of course! If there is anything of mine you can use, please be my guest! (If it's okay though, could you show that it's my work (like have a part for credits at the end of the presentation?))
Thank you all for your responses! To say that I'm overwhelmed, is an understatement! Thank you sooooo much! This will be a most amazing project, thanks to all of you!
I'll be sure to let you all know when the project is completed, how it was received (I can't wait!!!) and I'll then post the project somewhere for all of you to see. Whew, I'm going to be one busy woman! :)
@luxvivens Absolutely I will give everyone credit for their work. Not sure yet if I will post the name and locations on each photo or at the end of the presentation. I like the idea of having them on the photo so the residents can see the state/country the photo came from and who took it, but it will slow down the process considerably so I may just list the names at the end. But either way, all will receive credit for their amazing work!
Would you please post here where you are from? City/State or City/town/Country would be perfect. I have tried for the last 2 hours to go back and forth reading profiles, but it's not working too well for me :) Thanks so much!
I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. All my pictures are taken in South Africa, although some of them are in the interior of the country - but the picture information will say so.
@15johnpatrick I've never been there but hope to take a trip there soon. Let me know when you're planning to go, maybe we can get a few people to join us!
Linda, you can use any/all of my photos I have published here, in case you need full size version please leave a message at pankaj14in@gmail.com, I am from India and whatever pictures you have seen on this project have been clicked in and around pink city Jaipur.
@wndswptlady I'm from White Plains, NY. I think this project is such a wonderful idea, and so many beautiful images have been shared. I think it's so great to be able to help someone else through our photography.
@wndswptlady The majority of mine are taken in Norfolk and Suffolk, UK. Otherwise they are titled Morocco or Northern Cyprus. Glad to see you have had such a great response!
@wndswptlady I live on the Central Coast of California (Grover Beach, near San Luis Obispo). Most of my nature shots are from here or the Eastern Sierra. Good luck!!!
Hi Linda. I'm from Australia and have lots of scenic, floral and animal shots from this region in my project. Lots of 'funny' kangaroo shots in them, too. You may go to my project and use anything you like. We have different seasons here so you'll be getting summer shots while you're in winter, which could be interesting for some of your residents.
@wndswptlady you could check my photos from "around the world" album it's only a few days old, but there are some nice shots in there - also there are some in my 365 album from a recent trek to high altitude in Nepal (November), if you want originals, please let me know
Hi Linda! You have a very big heart! I am from the Philippines & I also love to help! You are very welcome to go check out my album, just go take anything you like in there!! Photos & music do help me go through my days, too! God bless you & your community!
@kerristephens Thanks, Kerri.. I welcome suggestions posted here as I have been blessed with so many offers it will take some time to go through them all. Love the shot you submitted!
To all..... I've named this "The Love Project" .... I will refer to this title when I leave a message for you that I've used your photographs! Thanks again for helping me! This certainly is a project of love!
I am from North of Toronto in a little town called Keswick. Ontario Canada
Lake Simcoe is at my door steps and lots of my pictures were taken there
especially sunsets. feel free to browse my 3 albums.
I'm from Boise, Idaho in the United States. Would be honored if you found any of my images worthy of your project. More landscape photos on my Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rangewriter/
Thank you all for your willingness to contribute. I now have 75 contributors! I will have enough photographs to make 2 different slide presentations of one hour each! Woo hoo.

@bruni Do you have a picture of a single flower that I could use. Your flowers are beautiful, but the collages would be too 'busy' for people in their 80's and 90's.
Thanks, all. I've just had knee surgery and am fairly drugged, so it will take awhile for me to get through all the websites. Thanks for your contributions. I am so excited...can't wait to see the end result!!!
Thank you all for your pictures! I still have a few more to pick up from the last few individuals. I wanted you to know that I will be presenting the project in early May. Once presented, I will post it online for you all to see. The pictures are beautiful! Thank you again!!!
@wndswptlady you have really put a lot of time into this project! I'm sure it will be appreciated. Maybe there's a way you could post it on YouTube or something (but not if it in any way added to the workload). And how's the knee?
@stepheesue Hi Stephanie - the knee is coming along, slowly. I went back to work 6 days after surgery (I had just started a new job) and I think that has slowed my progress somewhat. But I am hopeful it will all be ok soon.
YouTube is a great idea! When the time comes, I'll look into it!
Hi! I am finishing up this project and would like to add your home location to your picture(s). Would you please provide me with your home town and state or country? Thanks so much! Linda

@wndswptlady so sorry it's taken me this long to reply to you - yes, you're more than welcome to use my Esky Babies photo in your project (which sounds wonderful!). :)
Hello all! The Love Project presentation was a success and I am working now to put the PowerPoint presentation online. I had hoped to get it up tonight, but it looks like i'll have to wait until Monday because I forgot the music that went with it (it was not part of the powerpoint as we played it from a CD. I know how to add ONE song to a presentation and have it play through the entire presentation, but haven't learned (or if it's even a possibility) to learn how to do it. If I can't do it, I'll take the best and longest song from the CD and put that with it. I think the music adds to the beauty of the photographs.
I can't think you all enough for what you have done for our residents. They were so thankful for the pictures and actually had me run it through a second time so they could comment on their favorites! They were amazed that people they didn't know , cared about their pain enough to contribute. You all have made their day less painful and brought many laughs, smiles and even a few tears to them all.
Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart. As soon as I have presentation online. I will write you all here again.
@aikiuser We ALL received a standing ovation from those who could stand. One woman started doing the wave and 2 others joined in! Some of the comments I received were:
"Seeing those pictures makes me glad I am alive"....this from a woman suffering from chronic pain and depression.
"I know that house! I KNOW that house! I went there as a boy!" from a resident who lives in Pennsylvania. Rick Schies took the picture he mentioned.
"I couldn't pick a favorite, I loved them all".
"Seeing those children made me so happy!"
"Australia...you have pictures from Australia...I grew up there"
"I am so happy to have all your friends do this for us! I felt like I was floating, hearing the beautiful music and watching those pictures."
There were about 28 residents present. We asked how many had any pain at the beginning and 27 people raised their hand. We asked them if their pain was mild, medium or severe. Most said it was medium to severe.
At the end of the presentation, we asked everyone if their pain was worse or better after seeing the presentation. One woman yelled out from the back, "what pain?"...and when I asked if anyone had any pain....they all said ...NO... 27 people were without pain!!!
After the presentation we explained the many ways to deal with chronic pain and one of them was by focusing on something that they enjoy.
I thanked them for allowing me to show them our work. From the back of the room, a woman asked me if they could "See them again"..... and that's just what I did. Although this time it was a bit quicker as I was just clicking through them all as our time in the assembly room was limited.
They all were sad they had to go but told me to tell 'my friends' thank you for doing this for them.
That's such wonderful news, so glad I could be part of this project too - I've never really considered how our art may be put to a use as good as this - I'm wondering how I could do something similar locally to me around here. Thanks for the inspiration and the opportunity to help do something good!!
Thank you so much for sharing their comments! I so wish we could have all been there to share in their enthusiasm!! You are wonderful to put together such a great thing for them! Thank you for including some of my photos!
@digitalrn - Rick, I don't see your email in the list above and I wanted to be sure you had a chance to read the comments from the residents and how grateful they were for our presentation. I especially enjoyed the reaction of the man who recognized one of your pictures as a place he went to as a child!
I keep coming back to this thread, and am so glad to have been a part of it. I'm also starting to see thanks to this thread that maybe my photography can also do a part in easing my own pain. :)
Not sure if I can post the presentation here or not, but i'm going to try!
I could not add the music on this, so get your favorite soothing music playing and sit back and enjoy your hard work!
Oh it worked! Yayyy! Click on the link below to see the presentation. The first page looks messed up, but the rest is beautiful! Put on some soft music, sit back with your favorite beverage and enjoy your photos! The Love Project 2011View more presentations from lindamango.
@luxvivens Absolutely, your photography may help with your pain! If you put your photographs to soothing music, it's even better! I like to listen to music at http://www.serenitymusic.com/ . There you can listen to samples of their music and even download them for a minimal charge.
I hope this presentation inspires everyone to look at their art in a new way!
Linda, I am speechless. But, as I am speechless, my mind keeps thinking. This is an absolutely amazing community of images, all for one goal...happiness and contentment.
As you have alluded to us, it worked. We must sidebar about an opportunity to take this further as a "all profits go to..." for publishing. I am no guru in this, but it has potential. A lot of hurdles.
Worth it? (I don't know, I just like to do good things for good people)
Congrats Linda, you did an amazing job on the love project. Loved reading their responses, such a happy, positive outcome, you should be very proud of yourself!
Linda I like to congratulate you on the wonderful display of your Love Project 2011, a lot of work went into it and the presentations is phanomenal. I'm very happy that I was one of our 365er who brought some joy to the residents.
Linda, you did a fantastic job with this! So many talented photographers here and you put together the presentation beautifully. I could watch it over and over! Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us!
Thank you for sharing this with us and for allowing us to contribute to your wonderful project. With your permission I'd love to present the idea of this project to the director of nurses at the nursing home that I work for. I would be interested to see if this idea would have any effect on our Alzheimers and dementia residents
@rebcastillo77 Rebecca...that would be wonderful! I'm certain it would effect Alzheimer's and Dementia residents. They simply love pictures of animals and babies and birds! I believe we had a couple of Alzheimer's residents sitting in on this presentation and they were the ones oooohhhing and ahhhhing over the pictures of the babies. :)
It would be such a blessing for your residents for you to do something like this!
@wndswptlady This is a nice write up on your on your Love Project and lwell deserved recognition for you. like to congratulate you and as I mentioned to you before I was very happy to particitpate.
Thats an awesome shout out to you,, YOU put a lot of effort into the love project, and it shows.. thank you for the link to the slide show it was really good and made me proud that you chose a couple of my photos to be in the presentation.. :)
365P is a wonderful stomping ground for us all.. and I for one am glad to be a part of 365P and your love project,,,
Thanks for keeping us informed about everything that's happening as a result of this. It's wonderful to have been included, so thankyou for the opportunity.
How wonderful!! I didn't realize you gave the presentation on my birthday :-). You are wonderful to put this together. I'll have to share the link on my facebook! Thank you again for including some of my photos.
That's SO awesome!!! You must feel so good (I know I'm feeling pretty good right now!). Such a wonderful thing you've done, I'm really happy to have been able to help
The Love Project continues to influence people far beyond those I had originally intended. Take a peek at http://blog.slideshare.net/2011/05/25/the-love-project/
@wndswptlady Isn't it wonderful what you have accoplished with your Love Project and nice to know that your idea has been picked up by others. hope they do well too.
@bruni Thanks. The project belongs to all of us who contributed and I post this so we can all share in the kudos! I've found it on other blogs too! I was just blown away by the positioning as it's very hard to move up on Google!
I'm so honored to be in your slide show along with the other photographers featured. And again, for such a great cause. Thank you so much for the update (:
@wndswptlady I met with my Director of Nursing this morning and have gotten the go ahead to put a project together for our facility :D Thank you for allowing me to participate in yours, and letting me use this idea to improve the quality of life for our residents. Any tips you have would be great :D I will definitely keep you posted as to the progress!

It was a very good day Monday!
I could not add the music on this, so get your favorite soothing music playing and sit back and enjoy your hard work!

I hope this presentation inspires everyone to look at their art in a new way!
As you have alluded to us, it worked. We must sidebar about an opportunity to take this further as a "all profits go to..." for publishing. I am no guru in this, but it has potential. A lot of hurdles.
Worth it? (I don't know, I just like to do good things for good people)
