Hello, soon to be getting Lightroom, never used it before, only used an extremely old version of Photoshop (cs2) any suggestions on good books/ guides? I know there are a few 365 ers who are learning Lightroom this year any advice much appreciated. Seen there is a variety of options when looked on Amazon but would appreciate suggestions. Thanks.

@newbank Hi, I don't have any suggestions to offer, just bumbling along with my PS knowledge ... will follow the thread though to see what others suggest...

Scott Kelby's books are always worth looking at. His Lightroom for Digital Photographers book is a bit slow to get moving, the first 120 or so pages setting up and getting the Library module working. Necessary, but it puts me to sleep I am afraid. :) The pace, and for me interest, picks up when he starts on the meat of the Develop module.

There are a number of video tutorials on the Adobe site that are helpful... I found those a really good way of getting a quick intro...

I've found the website http://www.colesclassroom.com very helpful. He offers several easy to follow video tutorials.

I've used the Kelby book that @frankhymus referred to. It was long and slow at the start for the setup but really worth it for getting your library set up correctly and in a useful way. He's a bit 'chatty' but in the end, I'm really glad I used his book at the start. I'm going back to it this summer now that I know more about LR and have used it for several months to really concentrate on the Develop side of it. Have fun!! It's a great program.
Here's the link to the book I used for LR5 (US, though): http://smile.amazon.com/Photoshop-Lightroom-Digital-Photographers-Voices/dp/0321934318/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434810434&sr=8-1&keywords=kelby+lightroom+5&pebp=1434810438681&perid=1FB1BB5BXJVJQ9VJQZG1

Taking a couple live courses on LR really helped me. Lynda.com has a number of tutorials on LR that are good. Tony Northrup's LR 5--Training for Photographers has been helpful to read thru.
Of course there's a wealth of tutorials on YouTube etc:Serge Ramelli (sp?) is very good.

@frankhymus @taffy thanks. The Kelby one was one I was debating.

I can also recommend Anthony Morganti on YouTube.

I found Victoria Bampton's 'Adobe Lightroom 5: the missing faq' really useful. She's just updated to cover LR6. It was much cheaper to download from her website than to buy on Amazon when I bought my copy.

I've had the Kelby book for about six months ... but just cannot get beyond those first few chapters. Thanks for starting this conversation as I am now DETERMINED to get to grips with the basics of planning my library (sigh!) and THEN move on!

I am in the same place - have had lightroom for a good few months and have not known where to begin - was short on time at first too - thanks for the thread I am sure I will find somewhere to begin now

@kwiksilver Gillian I was reading this thread earlier and since a couple of people mentioned getting stuck on the initial chapters I'm thinking of skipping them for now and reading the rest of the book and then come back to those initial chapters. Seems a waste to have the book just gathering dust!

I subscribed to KelbyOne.com and found it more then helpful. They run specials from time to time. I think one just lapsed but check it out anyway.

I'll echo others re the Scott Kelby book, it's probably the best single printed source. There are heaps of resources on the web, but the single best is Julieanne Kost by a mile. And she has oodles of free stuff.
