Issues with Canon SX60 HS

I don't know if I am the only one having an issue with my Canon SX60 HS or if it's a problem with the camera itself. Every single photo I take, whether it's in manual mode, program mode or any auto setting looks fine on the screen but when I upload them to my computer there is a lot of distortion in the photo. So much so that I have to spend hours editing out the distortion for the photo to be clear. I am highly disappointed in this camera and I didn't know if it was just me. I called tech support and the guy I talked to mentioned different settings and I tried them and it still didn't work. Needless to say, I am very unhappy with this camera. I think I am going to downgrade to a step above what I used to have (Canon SX500 IS) as this camera is just not working for me. Either it's too complicated for me or there are serious issues with it. I was just wondering if anyone else had this model and experiences the same thing. I even took a photo at 16:9 which fits my computer monitor and when I set it as my desktop the distortion was clear as day. If I want to sell pictures, this just won't do.

Could you post some samples? One review I looked at said "21mm is about as wide as a lens can realistically go before it gives up trying to create straight lines and becomes a fish-eye lens. In fact, looking at the RAW files in Picasa (which makes no attempt to fix lens distortions), the lens is bordering on fish-eye at this focal length"

Have you checked other online reviews and message boards? If others are experiencing this, it's likely shown up on the net already... If you're the only one, might be a manufacturing defect...

I have only recently purchased my Canon SX60 to take travelling with me. I have taken over 2000 photos this trip and not had time to really look at all of them till I get home. I only use auto at the moment but now you mention it I have noticed some slight distortion at the sides of some of my photos so will look at them closely when I get home. Other than that I am very happy with it. I look forward to further comments

I've had this camera since December 2014 and love it. I've had no distortion problems. I know there are other people on this sight that have the same camera, @richardhoeg is one that I can think of right now.

Agree with @radiogirl, the SX60 is working fine for me. My only caveats is like many super zoom cameras to get really good photos of birds I need bright light. I often do one tweak in Photoshop Elements ... increasing the clarity. Here are some photos of a bobolink and killdeer I took shortly after dawn the last two days. http://www.365daysofbirds.com/2015/07/01/sunrise-gems-bobolink-killdeer/

Please note @cruiser , I never use auto. For nature photography of moving subjects like bird I am almost always set on shutter priority (1/1000th of a second is my "go to" setting) and I use a monopod to steady the camera.

I've checked out reviews and not found one that had a bad thing to say and didn't mention distortions in the images. I have tried tech support at Canon and Best Buy (where I got my camera) and they said it was my settings but it happens on all settings, whether it's manual, program, shooting in macro, auto or the other preset settings. I even went back to Best Buy yesterday to see if they could swap it for a different one in case this one is defective and they still wanted to say it was my settings even if I shot in auto mode. I never had an issue with my previous Canon except it had to go for repair a few times. I don't get why they won't just let me do a swap and see if I get the same issue on the different SX60. Extremely unhappy and makes me unmotivated to take photos.

Why don't you try the Sony DSC-HX50V? I absolutely love this camera, especially the 30X zoom. It takes amazing pics and I much prefer it to the Canon.

I'm sorry to hear you're having these troubles Bev! Since I have the SX50 it's hard to compare, but I vaguely remember someone in the camera club mentioning that the 50 was better than the 60 but I don't remember why. One thing I have noticed with this camera is that I do have to be very aware of my movement. It picks up even the slightest jiggle.

@olivetreeann It's not due to movement, Ann. It's got noise or is over pixelated or something. It's hard to describe. I just have to edit that out and get rid of the noise or whatever it is. It just takes me a lot longer to get a photo ready for 365. My SX500 was great. I miss it. I am thinking of getting a secondary camera that's a step up from my SX500 and if I like it, I will use that as my primary. I love some of the features on the SX60 but it's time consuming and makes more pain for me when I have to sit and edit out extra noise. It's really hard to describe. I could email you an unedited photo so you can see what I'm talking about if that would help. Time to upload some photos now though. I have several that tell a story and will have to be viewed in order! I was going to do a collage but then you wouldn't see the photo as it's intended and it's worth it (at least I think it is). I have spent all day on this.

@creampuff It doesn't have any fisheye effect. It is all pixelated and looks like there is too much noise.
