I put together a photo book of 100 various photos to show as a portfolio. I have many people asking me if the book was for sale and it is not. Does anyone know of a company that I can use to get this book published?
I've just used blurb which was pretty easy especially if you've got Lightroom, it's one of the modules. I haven't got the book yet so can't comment on quality but you can sell through them too.
@tskipper@adayinmallacoota Sorry Joe I got nothing for you but if I may ask you ladies ... this is the first I've heard of blurb and it looks good? (quick browse of website) Can I ask your advice on paper styles, covers etc? Also how does it work with lightroom?
@tskipper@hilarymeme@adayinmallacoota@aliha Others have also suggested blurb. I have the pages all set to go since this book was published for my portfolio. The company that printed the book does not do photo books anymore. I use MPix for printing my photos and do have an account with blurb. I will have to check out their prices. This book is a 12x12 book of 50 pages. I may have to look at a smaller sized book.
This is of no help to you but thought I would share my experience.
I have just had a photo book printed using a printer that is a few doors down from where I work. I used the Lightroom book feature and output it in PDF format and they printed it direct from that. It has 60 photos 1 per page 10 x 8. It is wire bound. They charged me £9 for one of and any further copies would be £6.
If I was doing this comercialy I realise I need to pay attention to the cover and back. It would have been better to design a cover. Lightroom has limitation there but I think I could design the cover in another program and save it in JPEG format and import it like any other photo. Not sure if wire binding may not be too classy either but it was a cheap option for what I wanted.
To sum up if you have the option to find a local printer and can output in per format you may be able to get a reasonable deal on the printing. As for publishing the book comercialy, I don't know gues you need a publisher or an outlet who would be happy to sell you book for a percentage.
@barrowlane I do not use Lightroom but I do have all the pages in jpg format. My current book has a photo printed on the cover and on the back. I will look at local printers to get quotes. Thank you.
i wish there were a way to send the entire completed project from this site to another, and have them all print out on a calendar, instagram size (2inch square)
If you are UK based (or they might do abroad) I use Loxley Designer Pro https://www.loxleycolour.com/albums-books have done 3 books with them now and a consistently fantastic customer service and product
