New(er) search functionality

August 17th, 2015
I love 365 and most things about it. But does anyone else have trouble with the search function on the updated menu at the top? I understand that the old way (with search field always visible) probably took up too much room and it's reasonable to replace with the icon. But I really wish it operated more like "browse" or "discuss" does. Maybe I'm just a klutz, but I have sometimes had a hard time getting the drop down search field to stay in place long enough for me to type into it. And when I do press "search" after typing in the term I'm looking for it defaults to searching discussions -- so if I'm searching for a user name it's an extra step to go from "sorry, nothing" error message to getting some results. Am I just doing something wrong?

It would be great if pressing the search icon dropped down the menu of what to search and once you chose one it would come up with a stable search page or window ready to type into.

@Scrivna Would something like that be doable? If so, it would be AWESOME. If not, I can deal with it...

@mcsiegle I found that if you don't enter anything, and just click on 'go' it will take you to a page where you can select user, etc. and enter search text

@bill_fe Ah! Thank you, Bill. I will do that.

Also, clicking on the search icon rather than just hovering over it will take you to that page.

@dulciknit Even better! I knew that there had to be something easier than the way I was experiencing it. Thank you both so much. @bill_fe

@Scrivna So never mind. There IS the easier way to use that button. So sorry to have bothered you with that.

All I ever get is a 404 error
