Viewing photos that cannot be copied

August 24th, 2015
I may have the opportunity to do photos for a daycare.
What options do I have to allow parents to view photos prior to buying without the ability to copy/paste the jpeg image?

I have a 500 PX account but it is possible to copy/paste those images.
I really don't want to make an investment at this time.
One thought is to have the size saved very small with low pixel density and huge logo? Any other ideas?

I came across this...the blank image over the top sounded interesting but I have no idea how you would do it. good luck! http://webresourcesdepot.com/10-ways-to-protect-images-from-being-stolen/

I think it is pretty much impossible to prevent all copying. But a subtle watermark makes it a little more difficult, and ensures that a person can't claim they didn't realize. That's what they do at the microstock sites....

Ultimately you can't stop someone copying an image though as you say you can make it fairly unusable apart from on a screen by having very low res version of it. You could also play the 'child protection' gambit by putting a black square or similar so as to obscure part/all of the face and say you will only release un-obscured copies to parents or those the parents authorize. If they need a further identifier just list the photo with the initials of the subjects....after all 'think of the children'

If you use Smugmug there's an option on their settings to not allow copying but it would still be a good idea to have a semi-translucent watermark over the photos as well

You could watermark, or just post thumbnails that will not expand without pixilating.

impossible to prevent copying. A few options tho to combine:
1. subtle but big translucent watermark all over the photo's
2. stripe-patern over photo's
3. use only small thumbnails
4. split up images in multiple ones

I understand people's want to watermark but I'm personally against them.. i mean end of the day if youre wanting to allow parents to view the images before buying, will they really get a good idea of what the image looks like wiht a huge watermark over the top?

I cant remember where I saw it but i've seen some sites where you cant right click / save the image. But lets be honest, you can always screen grab or snip.

@toast @mastermek @sjodell @davidgnc @jackies365 Thank you all for answering my question. The daycare has decided to book with us for both of their locations. Very excited. They have asked us to come the next week to show parents photos and handle the money. We have agreed to do so.
The down side it is an extra trip the upside I can try to sell them the idea of a family photo session they can have for Christmas/Holiday cards.
