This photo walk is sponsored by Scott Kelby of KelbyOne. I just joined for a walk in Detroit, MI. Thought I would post in case anyone is interested. There are walks all over the world : )
I'd love to do one... Same day as nuit Blanche in Toronto I think... Any torontonians want to get together for this? There's at least one photo walk planned around nuit Blanche that I could see on the link...
@jackies365 Though I would have to drive several hours and stay over a night or two, I could fit in two walks in nearby Colorado towns and stay with my sister-in-law. Have you done one? Are they fun?
@aecasey this will be my first. I had been looking for a way to connect with other photographers in my area and a video came up on YouTube about this. Watched it and decided to look into it!
I am not trying to be a curmudgeon, but I honestly want to know, what is the attraction of joining up with other photographers. The few times I have done this, I always feel I am copying someone else when I choose the same view as another photographer. I can see getting together to critique each others work, but frankly I consider the act of taking pictures a solitary pleasure. Is that just my introverted personality?
@allie912 I guess I hope to learn some things from others. It probably isn't so much as about creativity as meeting the others and possibly learn other things. I am struggling right now with how you process regular photos. I think if I met a nearby mentor I could physically meet with them for help. Posting here has grown my photography tremendously however it doesn't replace having someone physically near to work with. Taking classes isn't always an option for me so if I had someone that would help me willingly because of a friendship that would be great. I am no huge extrovert by any means. this is outside of the box for me. I would have felt out of place before at an event like this but after photographing a local event along with a couple of other photographers I realized that I have a point of view, I have learned to be fairly comfortable with my camera and lenses in manual (although I have so much to learn still!) and I can sort of hold my own doing this. I may love it or I may dislike it, but I won't know if I don't do it. I do shoot with a friend and find it very enjoyable. I know more about digital than she does but she has a better eye. So, I think that I may learn a thing or two, photograph an area I haven't shot in before and hopefully make some connections that may benefit me or maybe I can be of a benefit to someone else. just like anything with photography or anything else in life it may not be for everyone!
@allie912 Allison: I feel your pain. My own introverted personality shudders at the the thought of wandering around with a crowd of 50 strangers, photographers or not.
But, I'm pretty sure that's a bad thing, and I'm seriously considering signing up for one of the walks near me... maybe...
I did a Scott Kelby photo walk a couple years ago. Although we met up together we didn't actually "walk together" everyone separated. My photo was selected as the "winner" for that specific walk and I won a Scott Kelby digital book on Lightroom. The winners then are voted on with all the others in the world where there is opportunity to win some very nice equipment. It was fun to do. I am photographing a wedding in the late afternoon/evening in Florida. There is one not too far away from that location - it would be fun but probably won't work out with the timing. It doesn't hurt to do it and if you don't enjoy it you can decide to not do them again in the future.
Jackie, now I see your post! @jackies365 sorry I missed it so far. I wish I lived still close to you. We could have a lot of photography fun together. Good luck with your walk!

Unfortunately I will be in Canberra so will miss it - AGAIN
