I was wondering how everyone made out for Christmas? Did Santa say that you were naughty or nice? Did you get any new photography gear? If so tell us about it. Even better yet, show us a photo of your new gear or a photo taken using your new gear!
I must have been good because my sweet wife went overboard as usual and bought me Scott Kelby's book, "How Do I Do That In Lightroom?". She also got me a Cokin Creative filter system with two filters, adapter ring and filter holder and a subscription to Digital Camera World.
Here is a photo that I took using my new Yongneo 560III Speedlite that my daughter bought me.
Tx for starting this thread... I got a couple gift cards for the local camera store... Still trying to decide what to spend them on... Hopefully I'll get some ideas from what's posted here D
I got a rock:(. Actually my son did in his stocking. I got a gift card to use toward a new flash. Not sure what to get yet. Wish I didn't have to make the choice. One day, I will get that flash...and when I do, you can be sure there will be a flashy photo:).
Hubby M. gave me a Lensbaby for Christmas, and I am very excited about this generous gift. Mainly because I did not have to express this desire, he just knew it.
Same as @jackies365 - a Wacom tablet, which I just unpacked and played with, and I like it way better than trying to edit photos using my mousepad on a laptop.
Oh, and I think I have been EXTRA good, as in addition to that, I also got a Blackrapid Camera strap (the one that gets screwed onto the bottom), which now I don't know how I've ever lived without.
Oh, and I think I have been EXTRA EXTRA good, as there was also an unannounced tripod. Now I have no excuses. My family are such enablers.
Oh, and I also got a couple of books on street photography, which are turning out to be quite inspiring.
Gee, now that I've listed all the goodies, I really like my family! :)
I got gift cards to Amazon as I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted. And thank god cause it drastically changed from pre to post Christmas. I ended up buying a padded camera insert for my purse (i broke a few filters this year!), a bokeh kit (hasn't arrived yet so no reviews yet), a studio shooting table (got it today and so excited to try it out) and a Alta pro Tripod (a huge upgrade from my flimsy $40 tripod that I had! ) I was going to buy a lens but decided against it as I feel with my new macro, my zoom, my nifty 50 and my kit wide angle I was all set there!!
Here we use to exchange gifts on New Years eve, instead of Christmas day, and I have a feeling I am getting a new lens :) Will know for sure tonight, but I am about as certain as I can be without peeking :)
@amandal - Your son got a rock? There are oodles of speedlites out there to chose from. I looked on Amazon and read the reviews. Another brand I came across was a Neewer. Both the Yongneo and the Neewer are rated high and very comparable to the Canon speedlites' capabilities and much lower in price. Don't know much about Nikon gear though. Do lots of research!
@shutterbugger - Wow very nice! I was just watching a comparison video on the 7D Mark II. They are amazingly fast! 10 frames/sec! Did you get the L lens?
@danette - Wow I am jealous! Of course I don't know if my back would give out carrying a 500mm lens along with the camera! Look forward to seeing some great water fowl shots!
I've had LR for awhile. I have had PS longer and I am more use to the way it works. It is taking me awhile to get a handle on the the way LR works. For instance, in PS you work in layers and when you are finished you save your work as a PSD which keeps all the layers intact. In LR there aren't any layers, but it preserves the original image. LR tracks the changes you make and you can see the changes made but it doesn't actually change anything. Figure that one out. Hence the need for a book on LR.
@skipt07 LR was a puzzle to me until I started getting instruction. I certainly love it now. The 500mm lens is not of great quality. We will see how it takes photos!
still a lot to learn!

They must REALLY like me :)

Glad to see you are moving into Lightroom!

This was a totally unexpected gift from a friend. I've been using it ever since I opened the box!!
