Can anyone save our photos?

January 14th, 2016
Hi All,

I've just come back 365 after trying and failing to complete a full year in 2012. I've enjoyed the first 2 weeks!

Something occurred to me just now....Can anyone download and save any of our photos from the "sizes" link?

I have been uploading high quality files (I will stop doing this anyway, as there is probably not much point for web viewing). Not that anyone would necessarily want to steal my images, but I wouldn't want people to be able to access my high quality files.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks

Nick

Hi...to clarify, I know people can save the images, but are the files that can be saved from the link on the site the full sized, full quality images that are uploaded?

@nikobe I just looked at my own page, clicked Sizes View All, and saw that one of the available files is the original that I uploaded. I then went to somebody else's page, did the same, and saw that the original option was not available there. So it seems only the owner can access the original file.

@laroque That's interesting. I just went to my own page and cna see Thumbnail, Square, Small, Main and Large options. I also just went to yours and can see the same options. Did you see something different?

@laroque @nikobe As Tina said, you are the only one that has access to the full size uploaded. Others can see up to the "large" size, which is a maximum of 1,024 pixels on the longer side.

As you say, at the moment there is little point uploading "full size" files since they can only be viewed at this "large" size, 1,024 pixels. Personally, I don't use the site to store my files, indeed, I don't store large jpegs usually. So I down-sample myself, and then optimize this view, usually with a little more sharpening, for internet viewing.

Here's a thread that discusses these issues. http://365project.org/discuss/general/26933/optimising-file-sizes-for-posting-to-365

@nikobe The "full size" is below those other three. If you can't see that, you might only have access to it if you are an Ace member, I don't know for sure.

@nikobe Seems you have to be an Ace member to have access to your own Original file.

@laroque @frankhymus Thanks for your replies. That makes sense now. I am reassured that people can't get hold of the original files. I will, in any case, now not upload large files anymore. Thanks for the link to optimising files for internet.
