16GB memory HELP!

April 11th, 2016
Boo
Wish I had that in my head! Anyway, my memory card is playing up. I transfer the pics to the puter, remove the pics from the card but then the next time i go to use the camera the memory shows all the pics that should have been deleted. Tried deleting all the pics from the card using the function on the camera which does work until....I turn the camera off and then when I want to use the camera again and turn it on, all the "deleted" pics are still on the card.

Can anyone help me please?

Putting this here to reach out to more people.

Hope you can help as I haven't got the time to go to town and get a new memory card today...hahaha

Love Boo xxx

Hi Boo, you could try formatting the card, rather than just using the delete function.

@huvesaker tried formatting on both the camera and the computer...think it is now an ex-memory card

@huvesaker Oh okay, either card or camera is faulty, I would suspect the card. If you import on to your PC again does it give you the option to delete all images on your camera ? You could try that. If that doesn't work, sorry I have run out of ideas for now.
Oh just one other thing you could try, have you got another camera to put card into, then format and put back into main camera and reformat if necessary.

@markp But it does sound like it's new card time.

have you checked the card lock little thingy on the side of the card...the little bit that slides up/down...you may have accidentally locked it...just slide in the opposite direction and see if it helps...

Are you deleting the pics when the card is in the camera? I was told once to always do it that way and not on the computer.

April 11th, 2016
@huvesaker well I'm glad it worked out. Any idea how long the cards generally last?
April 11th, 2016
Boo
@tracys no idea, the one that just died lasted three years...and it was used heavily...hahaha

@maree_sanderson well..I might have just accidently ordered a new play toy...lol waterproof, shockproof and not so wallet friendly...hahaha, BUT I shall have to see if I really want it.

@huvesaker - You didn't accidently lock your card did you? That little tab on the left side of the card. Usually you'll get a message if you do. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

@skipt07 checked and double checked and then they checked in the camera shop. Thanks for replying though. :-)

@huvesaker They don't last forever. Can I suggest you purchase another one as back up.

@huvesaker good

I would just buy a new memory card. I wouldn't take the chance of it failing on you. I usually replace mine about once a year.
April 12th, 2016
@huvesaker Now that you have new cards it is important to use good care of the cards. This means after you upload the image from the card to the computer/storage...ALWAYS remformat the card when you put it back in the camera. Always reformat in camera.

Agree with John. ... Reformat and don't delete. Also if you shoot with multiple cameras like some of do, you would want to not mix the cards, have separate cards for each camera...
April 13th, 2016
@chapjohn can I ask why the reformat - I am curious as I generally delete them on my laptop - eject and use again :)

Just deleting images leaves the information on the card. reformatting completely removes all that information. This is important so new information/images don't get mixed up with the old information eventually corrupting the memory card. After you have uploaded images from the card to your computer/cloud there is no reason to have that information on the memory card. It is important to reformat the card in the camera.
