Boston Photographing Ideas?

July 7th, 2016
Junko @jyokota and I will be in Boston for a conference this weekend. We have a few hours on Saturday (when it is supposed to be raining) morning and mid-afternoon and were wondering if any 365ers might have recommendations. We will be near the convention center and squeezing in a photowalk so don't have a lot of options for things too far from there (beyond a 15-20 minute taxi or train). Thanks in advance for any ideas! We're near the smaller convention center -- the one at BackBay / Copley Square area. I went to Boston MFA yesterday and to Boston Public Library (but it's closed for a few days now for renovation). Welcoming all ideas! :)

You will be close to the Harpoon Brewery. They are famous for their pretzels and my husband says their beer is pretty good, too. I don't like beer, so I'll stick to the pretzels. But, it's a cool tour, especially if you are looking for things to do indoors. The JFK library isn't too far from their either. It's also fabulous. We really enjoyed it. The USS Constitution is a little ways away, but it is also fabulous for pictures. Lots of great shots along the water.

Welcome to New England!! Here's just a few....the Charles River, Boston Common, the Christian Science Center, Yawkey Way and Fenway Park!! The Pru center, Boston University (Commonwealth Ave....there is a cool Martin Luther King sculpture). And if it's not raining, just wander down the streets....a lot of the architecture is old new england and so cool!!! Have a blast!! Definitely grab dinner in the North End if you have time (they have the best Italian restaurants!!) Oh and dessert (I suggest the cannoli!!!!) at Mike's Pastry! To die for!! :)

I'm not sure where the convention center is (it's been a while since I was there) but taking the T to anything is sooooo easy! If it's sunny- Boston Common! So much to see and so many iconic Boston scenes there (Make Way for Ducklings statue and lots of historic figures too). Indoors- great view of the city from the top of the Pru (I think that's the building) and there's a really nice Butterfly room in the science museum. I also loved the modern art wing of the art museum but I see you've been there already.

Are you there for the Literacy Convention? Thought about going too, but alas, it is not happening.
Looks like you are at the Hynes Convention Center, which is close to Back Bay, Public Garden, Boston Common and the Charles River. There is plenty to photograph, I think.
Here are a few of my favorites:
The fairly new Zakim bridge, pretty cool, I think you can get close to it around North Station.
You can walk along the waterfront (along the Harborwalk) and have the sea and some pretty neat buildings.
The Contemporary Museum of Art for its cool architecture.
Beacon Hill for its cobblestone streets and brick buildings.
Faneuil Hall (it is a touristy zoo), and North End for street photography.
Haymarket/ outdoor food market (Friday and Saturday).

Looking forward to see your pictures!

Faneuil Hall (pronounced fanel or funel, originally fanyel I think) and the Marketplace. it must be 20 years since I was in Boston. Ah, I see already mentioned. I was with one of the "old family" scions so was able to get into the hall and see all the secret places. I don't know whether it is even open inside now. http://www.faneuilhallmarketplace.com/

@transatlantic99 @frankhymus

Thanks -- really appreciate the advice! Now I want to come back just for a photo trip without the 'annoyance' of a conference interfering with time to play! Wonderful list.

@transatlantic99 @frankhymus @olivetreeann @phillyphotos @kevin365 @dianen @homeschoolmom -- thank you all for your tips! As @taffy says, we are finding ourselves too tied up with the conference, and the COLD and rainy weather isn't conducive to leaving our meetings to get out so indeed, a return trip solely dedicated to photography might be on the horizon.
