Maybe you can help me out - I can't seem to find any answers on Google in layman's terms.
Do I need to be doing anything specific when I open a RAW file? I always open in Photoshop but it never brings up the RAW options as I've seen shown in tutorials. I've looked through the preferences and I'm all out of ideas.
Great, thanks. How do you find Bridge as an organisation tool? I use iPhoto at the mo and although I think it's great, it can be a little slow and bloated sometimes.
Are you sure you have the RAW converter plug in. What version of Photoshop are you using.
I use CS2 and had to update the RAW convertor plug in as the version was old and wouldn't read my camera's RAW files. Just went to adobe site and got the latest version for CS2
I just drag and drop onto photoshop and it opens the converter which has all the RAW sliders and options. Then once i've tweaked there Clikc open again in the converetr and it transfer into PS itself
Ah-ha. I have found out what the problem is - iPhoto does keep the RAW data but converts to jpg when importing so you have to go to 'see file' and open it up from there. Long way around it. Interested in hearing how other mac users store/import their photos.
You can see if it works for you before you spend any $$ on the program. I'm currently learning to use it and it seem like an efficient way work! Good luck!
Emma, seems you found your Raw problem. I just started using Bridge cause my preview program was converting to CMYK and certain filters weren't working right. Bridge is great if you just put a bit of work into it, the more you put in the more it will work for you on the back end... things like tagging photos, sorting, filing, etc. Since it looks like you can't use iphoto anymore for your RAW images you might give it a shot.
Travis - think I will use it for editing and such and then whatever I keep will go into iPhoto. Seems a bit arse about tit but I guess that's working with raw. Ho hum!
I found a free program called Fast Stone Image Viewer that will open RAW files and you can then save them as you need. It has some utilities for batch processing and it may allow you to do a batch from RAW to JPG. Good Luck
There are preferences you can set in iPhoto when working with RAW files. Take a look at those as well. I open routinely open RAW files stored in iPhoto from Photoshop. For some reason, Bridge doesn't work for me. I probably gave up way too early on trying to figure it out.
I don't open Photoshop first and then open the image.
1. Using Adobe Bridge>Right Click>Open as RAW
2. In Photoshop>File>Open As>RAW

If you want to try Lightroom 2 to store/organize/eidt there is a 30 free trial from Adobe: http://tryit.adobe.com/us/lightroom/c/?sdid=EPGTR
