Sometimes I fill if there are only a few blanks. Like you, I hate seeing holes in my calendar. But, then the holes also state the fact that life got in the way at that point - and life does happen!
Some people fill in the blanks using 'restricted' so that they do not overwhelm the homepages of others, and then change to public so those interested can go back through at their leisure.
As @littlequeenie says, your project - your rules! Main thing is to enjoy it and have fun on the journey.
@countrylassie As many others have said, do what you want. Personally, I try to fill in blanks in my main album, but I don't obsess (now after 4 years) if a few remain blank.
I catch up and fill them in- but not all at once and in a leisurely pace so that my posts don't overwhelm my followers. It's really up to you- if it bothers you I'd fill it in. If it doesn't, then don't worry about it. "Your project; your rules".
I have a system in place so I never have any missed spaces. If I miss a day, the first set of photos I take the next morning are my photos for the missed day. No being choosy, no "cheating", and it absolutely must be taken very soon after I wake up.
But I take the project a lot more strictly than most! :) If you really hate seeing empty spaces for whatever reason, fill them. If you prefer your project be more "organic" or reflect your year warts and all or whatnot, leave them be.
I like seeing fillers when people post them but at the same time I don't mind when other people miss days. Life is pretty busy, after all! If you miss for a while and stop commenting/faving people might worry about you but otherwise I don't think people will really mind. Unless you post 200 filler photos in a row that is, haha.
I hate to see gaps in my calendar bujt I am having trouble keeping up at the moment and trying to fill gaps is so stressful if you havent got much to show. So I am beginning to think "let it go" might be the answer
I hated the gaps too, but came to the realization that if I wanted to keep loving photography and not to get burnt out, I needed to just shoot as I could and not force myself to do a daily shot. I know that probably defeats the purpose of a 365, but I have a full one under my belt and so am now just using the community and project as a way to keep shooting, even if it's irregularly. The past 5 months have introduced many many holes in my project and I've come to the point where that's ok by me.
I'm doing the same as Ann, filling gaps that built up while I was away on holiday but pacing them out so I don't spam people's feed - plus I'm slowly working through processing them!
For occasional one-off gaps where I just didn't manage a picture I'm going to let it go even though my original aim was to do the year with no gaps or fillers. As others have said, sometimes the gap is just a reflection of the fact that life got busy that day!
I fill in the random one-day gaps with one of the following:
- a good photo from a day or two before then that I didn't have space to share (i.e. I took a ton of photos at an event and there were a few that I really loved)
- a challenge photo (like the album cover challenge), and I may do this a few days after the fact as long as the date and the editing all fall in the challenge rules
- or a "throwback" photo from many years ago on the same (or nearly the same) date.
But I don't (often) let more than two days go by without posting - and when I do it's more often because I'm too busy to import/edit photos than because I didn't actually take any - so I (hope) I'm not really spamming my followers when I catch-up with two-three pictures.
It's your project & your rules, so I'd do whatever makes you happiest about it - fill them if they'll always bug you, leave them if you feel that's "cheating" (or whatever.)
That's a big gap that you have and it would take a lot of filling. I would let it go. There was a big gap in our project last year and early this year and I wasn't happy to see it, but once I accepted that I couldn't fill it, I've become more relaxed about the whole project. I occasionally miss days, but it no longer matters, and because I no longer obsess about it I think my photography has benefited.
Thank you all so much for your comments and help. I have tried to 'let it go' really I have but it was bugging me so much I am having to fill, thanks once again.
