Have you ever....

Sold your photos online? I just made a lil website on a platform called photoshelter.com and one of the features they offer is built-in buying/selling/payment through the site. I would love to hear from anyone who's done this or thought about it before, whether it worked out well for you or not. I'm not looking to make a lot of money, it would just be nice to think that once in a blue moon someone would pay for a copy of something I've taken or put together, and I'm paying for the site anyway so I may as well make the most of it!

Sorry this is the most 101 question ever, but if you do start selling your photos this way, are you responsible for printing and posting the prints, or does the site handle that??

Also, pretty much all the photos on my website were taken on a micro four thirds camera, so I don't know how that affects printing options and quality given the small sensor size.

Any pointers or advice or general musings would be so appreciated! Thank you xx

(Oh, and I would be honoured if you checked it out - izzyromilly.photoshelter.com ! )

Yes I have, no problems for me as I shoot wildlife you may need a release if you use people. EyeEm is very good as well.

I have had no luck selling photos online. I have been able to sell mostly framed and printed shots either hung in a gallery or that I brought to friends and neighbors that I though might like them.
I love taking and editing the photos. I hate marketing them. Just not what I enjoy.

I have 2 online shops on Society 6 & Redbubble. These sites sell your images either as prints/canvas etc or onto products - bags, mugs etc.
It's free - you upload the photos & they do the rest. You therefore only get a tiny bit of profit when things sell. I've had more success on Society 6 than Redbubble but I'm not a millionaire yet!
I've also set up my own Wix.com website just to try & showcase my images, although haven't really promoted this much yet. I'd have to print & handle my own orders if sales were generated.
I tried Zenfolio too but that required money to set up what I wanted & I didn;t think I could justify the cost at this stage.
(I tried your link but it didn't work :/ )

My single attempt at this was a horrible failure (a word of caution: Neonmob is terrible) and I haven't really been able to find anything worthwhile.

I know some photographers sell on Etsy, either as digital downloads (for the buyer to get printed) or physical prints/stuff with prints on them. Both types have their own pros and cons. But an Etsy shop is a legitimate small business and it takes so much time and effort to be successful (and so much to just be legal). For me, its really not an option for my photos. It would be too much of a pain to deal with. I'd rather just run the shop for my clay.

Hi
I have an online shop at FineArtAmerica and have had a little success with selling but certainly not a millionaire yet! They do all the printing and fulfilment globally. You can set the prices for each item you sell, which is over and above their costs. Full membership (access to marketing tools etc) does cost something (cannot remember what though!)

This is my shop if you wish to see it http://debbie-stott.fineartamerica.com

They also have a little plug-in for Facebook so you can make your shop available via one of the tabs on your FB page. FB shop: https://www.facebook.com/DibzZen/
