364+1 finished! Yay to me!

September 25th, 2016
So some of you have been following me since I started this round of 365 portraits in B&W.

I moved away from this site due to much negativity some even calling on @scrivna to quieten me. As with all negative people I come across I remove myself from the region.

I've posted the images here and may continue to populate their stories but my first port of call is all the other work associated with what the project was to ME.

It began with re training my brain to see in B&W, to use my neglected 50mm, to [try] to make a portrait everyday AND interview them to get their story.

On July 2 2014 I had NO idea how massive this project would be, nor how many it would touch, nor how in many many positive ways it touched the subjects, their family and friends and then everyone in my ever growing sphere.

When I approached my subjects part of my introduction was "I'll put together an exhibition at the end of it." Yeah easy peasy!

With an introductory exhibition in Sydney's major photographic festival HeadOn ( https://www.headon.com.au/exhibitions/face) running in May 2015 I did the media blitz and as a result my local council have taken it on board.

I am holding the inaugural exhibition outside the Art Gallery for my region.

I have set the benchmark for future artists to apply for an exhibition.

There was standing room only at the launch with 25 of my subjects being honoured at the event.

I am a pioneer ... all because as I was driving to my daughter's place I decided to do another 365 project!

Because of the intense preparations for the small Sydney event and the major LMCC event I've had to move all the content to my dedicated site - http://www.carlaedwardsimages.com/

THANK YOU @scrivna for this platform. I really enjoyed my first 365 and was challenged by feedback from the second 365.

But I honour you too (@scrivna) as without you 364 people would not be given the opportunity to share their stories here, on the two exhibitions and the ones to follow. Yes I'm taking it regional and interstate to continue to honour my promise.

Thank you to the negative posts and responses - you really do spur people on to achieve their [dreams].

But most of all a huge thank you to @vignouse, @phil_howcroft for your honest feedback. I don't need people to be 'nice' on the portrait or story. There are probably more I should say thank you but I don't have time to trawl back through 360 posts to find you so anyone else who's given their professional feedback on what works or doesn't - thank you.

Google me and you'll find more if you want to.

Love, peace and gratitude.

@grammyn indeed - never realised it on the drive to my daughter's how it would end up!
@jackies365 - go do, put the blinkers on, don't listen to the -ve and follow your instincts.
@kali66 - I am only a conduit for others - I have gratitude to them and honoured to give them a voice.

@kjarn Thank you Kathy - we never did catch up ... just changed it.

Yes, have seen some of your portraits and read their stories, very interesting and moving. Good luck for the future!

It's been quite a journey for you Carla and in many ways I think, a personal catharsis... and like all cathartic events - there's pain involved! It's probably for the best that you didn't completely realise what you were getting into or you probably wouldn't have got past the first post. Very few of us on here - me included - would be comfortable asking a total stranger for their portrait, let alone their life-story!

Accept my congratulations and best wishes for the future of this project and you personally.

Congratulations! I wasn't one of your followers, but I am now. Awesome collection. Quite intriguing. So sad that you experienced negativity on here, as I have only seen the opposite. Hope you continue posting.

@homeschoolmom Hi Lisa thanks for your words - I've done the 365 portraits so at this stage I won't be putting anymore up. I may give it a miss for a few years to work on my other passion.

Carlita... I always called you that Carla. .. it was a pleasure to follow your project. In fact it was your project that triggered me to do my '50 mono portraits with my 50mm: project (my first attempt at portraits). I have gone on from that and I am now doing my "100 strangers" project . All because I stumbled on your photostream on here.

Some of your stories were emotional. Some were difficult to understand (you used to waffle on a bit in your early narratives , probably excited about the photo and wanting to tell us too much). What stood out was your empathy with the person in front of the lens.

We all had our fave stories , sometimes it was the image rather than the story. Anyway I am, as I say above, waffling a tad . Good luck with your new website and respect to you for what you have achieved.

G'day carlita ☺☺☺
