I am looking for a comprehensive instruction book that I can keep as a reference when my leaky mind forgets what I should already know. By comprehensive I mean general but complete. Think "Chapmans Guide to Piloting and Seamanship".
Do you mean a technical book o how to use your camera or composition etc. For me I love books by Michael Freeman which cover exposure, composition etc. Also if you look Amazon you can get good copies second hand. Hope this helps.
@padlock - It is possible what I am looking for doesn't exist. If you took all of Michael Freemans books and combined them into one big book that was organized it such a way that you could quickly look up the information you needed for a particular type of shoot. Then you would have something closer to what I am looking for. Thanks for the tip though, his books look interesting and I will probably give him a read.
@padlock - Actually, I may have found it in a more comprehensive list of Michael Freemans books. His "Photography School Fundamentals" may be what I was looking for. Thanks
@laroque - Thanks, Tim. I found a like new used edition for $4.58 + Free Shipping. At that price I couldn't refuse. Looks like a very comprehensive guide. Now I will have both books. Should keep me busy for awhile. ;^)
@frankhymus thanks Frank. I will see how the two I purchased work out. The series you mention strike me as more in depth works on single subjects and I am sure I will read some of them as my preferences become more clear.
@frankhymus Ha! I forgot I had ordered it, but Scott Kelby's book " The Digital Photography Book" just arrived today. See what I mean by a leaky mind😄
@sarasotab You might not agree with everything an "expert" says but it does give you a base for considering what should be thought about. Have fun, that's what it should be all about.
@frankhymus@padlock@laroque - When I have had a chance to assess all three books, I will post my thoughts here. I just got Michael Freemans book yesterday, and the London book will arrive on Tuesday. Frank, Selby is very easy to read, and his approach of giving "recipes" to solve various problems is very interesting and helpful. His sense of humor is also appealing.
@sarasotab Glad you appreciate Kelby's very conversational and very idiomatic and distinctive discourse. Many are turned off by it. Freeman is far more formal and "complete," but I enjoy Scott's casual and "basic nugget and recipe" style. I learn a lot from him still.
