best thing would be to put up some photos so we can see what your skills are, take part in some of the challenges here we learn a lot from the doing!

I have a 5200. I'd say start with it totally auto until you start to get a feel for it & what it can do. Click on the 'i' information button to see what settings it's using.
Then play with the preset menus & see what settings the camera uses.
If I'm doing 'arty' stuff, I tend to use it on Aperture Priority mode.
My advice is don't feel pressured to use it in Manual mode if you are not confident yet.
It is worth though getting a feel for what the basic shutter speed, aperture & ISO does & how changing one affects the others.

When I first got mine, I used to just read the manual and trying out all the things they describe. Tabs and sticky notes help - just highlight what you already know for future reference (e.g. different pre-programmed shooting modes). Not that I used all of the settings after that, but it helped me to gain overview of what the camera potentially can do and what my "area of comfort" was when using it.

Well I see by your profile you haven't really started yet. So my best advice would be just start shooting. Carry the camera and try something. It doesn't cost anything to mess it up and get dark pics or whit out pics or fuzzy ones, so just play around with all the buttons and between reading the manual and playing with the camera it will start to make more sense. Then when you have specific questions, the you tube videos or peoples answers will make more sense. It really needs to have some hands on time to work it out.

I have a 5200. If you have a specific question, I would be happy to try and answer it.
